How hard is it for someone to study engineering (i.e chemical) without prior knowledge of Ext 1 Maths, even with a bridging course?

The less work you put in, the harder it'll be.

One of my friends is doing mechanical, which has way more maths than chemical engineering, and he just did a bridging course anyhow (only 2U in high school). Still maintaining a solid distinction WAM anyhow. But he doesn't do it by being lazy; he does it by trying.

So ask yourself how much work you'll be putting in. If you put in a lot, then it's going to be no problem at all.

Yeah I absolutely agree, provided you are willing to play some catchup you'll have no issues. If you can do Calculus (2U), you are totally sweet! Just be prepared for a big jump in difficulty ;D

If you don't do 2U, a bridging course would be a good call ;D

I currently do 2U, is learning 3U after the HSC (summer break) possible without teachers and material from school?

Totally!! Though I don't know if it would be strictly necessary for university, again, if you can do Calculus you are probably set! That said, you could definitely grab a textbook/set of notes and cover any useful topics yourself, perhaps even do a few weeks with a tutor in January?

I actually taught my girlfriend Calculus, she did Medical Science in her first year of uni and so needed to know it for her courses (she's since transferred, probably my shitty teaching skills ;)) ;D

A very important question to ask yourself here.

Why wouldn't it be?
