Do you believe in the Law of Attraction?

Hey!
So I've heard the Law of Attraction being talked about a lot recently, and thought to ask you guys what you thought of it. Do you think it's real? If you do, what are your experiences with it?

For those who don't know, this is just a brief explanation of the Law of Attraction:
This 'Law' is pretty much states that whatever you put out into the universe, is what you'll get back. Sort of like the concept of 'karma', but different. For example, if you put out positivity and happiness into the universe, you'll attract positive vibes and happiness back. What I mean is that if you spend all of your time wallowing in regrets of the past or fears of the future, you'll likely see more negativity appearing. Another example of the law could be that if you want something, and you put into the universe or visualise that you'll get it or achieve it, you'll get it.

Personally, I'm a believer of this, but don't think that you'll get something just by saying it. You need to work for it and earn it, and it won't just happen.
Thoughts?

Hi!

I actually watched a documentary on the 'Law of Attraction' on Netflix and it was pretty good. I remember them showing an example of a kid who really wanted a bike but he couldn't get it. In the end, he got it. Sorry if this is vague but I can't remember exactly.

Anyway, in my opinion I found this pretty cool when I watched it. It got me thinking a lot of thoughts about what could be achieved with this principle.

I believe in it in a way. I'm more likely to go out of my way to help a person I know would do the same for me, so just by virtue of them being a good person, I'll treat them better (although I try to treat all people well -- it's easier said than done). It's self-fulfilling.

Do you happen to know what the documentary is called? It is something that's cool, but can also be quite confusing, at times, to get your head around. :)

Interesting. What do you think of the 'visualising what you want and then eventually achieving or attaining it' theory?

I think that it's certainly a good motivator -- it's a great way to remind yourself about your goals! I think that it helps in that sense. Beyond that, I don't think there's any justice to the universe that allows people to get the things they want by willpower. It's just hard work and, for some things, lucky circumstances.

I don't think there's any rhyme or reason to how these things work, which I find comforting :)

Hmm yeah completely agree. Won't just happen by putting it out there, and you need to work for the things you want.

Partially yes and no. Many people get there by hard work, many get there by nepotism and favoritism.

Think of all the people in govt jobs, lawyers and managerial jobs . Many of them got their jobs through nepotism and connections.

There's also the issue of inequality in the work place.

I definitely accept some level of the law of attraction, in that what your focus your attention on and think about influences your behaviours, which influences the results you receive.  What you expect seems to become the truth to some extent (self-fulfilling prophecies).

Also, the more kindness and compassion and understanding and positivity you send to others, the more you tend to get back, because people on average treat you based on how you treat them.

I don't believe that by visualising, you can transform your whole life and achieve all you want - that comes from hard work and connections and luck and genes and all - but it can have a strong influence.

I totally agree with what you've said. I like how you've mentioned that what you consistently think about influences your actions because you want it so badly, and that in turn leads to positive results and achievements. When you want something really badly, you'll more often than not work hard in achieving that goal.

I think that visualising what you want also relates back to what you often think about, and how it impacts your behaviour. By visualising, you're essentially telling yourself that you will get what you want, and I think that's more motivational than anything, and it drives you to work hard.
