Further Maths study score scenario

Hi everyone,

Now I would like the cold, hard and honest truth. Is there a chance for me to even get a RAW 40 in further with a high B+ SAC average? I know (its obvious) to get 40's you must get A+ in both exams but I'm very disappointed after not staying consistent in this subject, and screwing up one of my sac's very badly. I do think that my end of year sac average will be 74-78% which gives me a GA1 of B+. Any reliable thoughts/opinions/facts? I'm trying really hard for these exams and have been doing 2 exams per day (for the upcoming holidays is what I am planning to do) but so far I have completed 8ish practice exams and been getting scores ranging from 68-80% which is ok for the first couple. Please feel free to add your 2 cents in this discussion. Thank you!

Edit: My SAC average is 76.59% which I think is poor from my own abilites. Is it possible to get a scaled 40 or even raw 40 with a B+ SAC GA? I am really pushing for that double A+ by completing more and more practice exams. Does anyone also have any links to work on recursion and finance? Thanks!

A raw 40 equates to approximately 9th percentile. See http://www.vcaa.vic.edu.au/Documents/statistics/2016/section3/vce_further_mathematics_ga16.pdf for the score you need (might be 1-2 points higher/lower this year) to be in the 9th percentile.
To save you the trouble: 10.1% of people got 92%+ for units 3/4. So you need to get higher than 92%, maybe around 95% to be in the top 9%
8.9% of people got above 72/80 (90%) for exam 1. So aim to not lose more than 8 marks to be in the top 9% for exam 1.
and 8.2% got above 103/120 (85.8%) for exam 2. So it's safe to say if you get 90% for both exam 1 and 2 and are rank 1 or 2 in your cohort, then you'll get a raw 40+

SACs are worth almost nothing in maths subjects, particularly further. Everything is dependent on your exam performance and your SACs will scale according to that. So your SACs may not even actually be B+, they could be moderated to an A, so don't worry too much about that. On average, 90% in the exams equates to ~40, but in your case you may need a little higher, (depending on SAC moderation), but above 90 will definitely give a 40+ score. I did further last year and saw people with B+ SACs score a raw 46, all due to their great exam performance, so there's definitely hope for you :)

If you ace the exams, anything's possible. Good luck :)

Was working on some resources for this, which unfortunately have been misplaced. Will be looking for them, but in the meantime, would recommend that you check out the old 'Sequences and Series' and 'Financial Maths' modules from the previous study design. They are similar in nature.
