Hey guys,
I've been wondering about this for a while i wouldn't mind hearing some other opinions.  To be honest I feel a bit uncomfortable sharing results like this, but I think its important that I got some advice/opinions.

My situation:
Legal: 40
Accounting: Mid A+ on midyear, rank 1 or 2.
Methods: ranked well within the top third of a strong cohort. Possibly my favorite subject. I've done more work for methods than anything these holidays. I would be extremely surprised if it wasn't top 4 .
Further: A/A+ average. possibly scrape in for top 3rd ranking in a reasonable, but by no means spectacular cohort.
National Politics: B average. poor ranking.
English: High A+ semester 1 in a v.v.strong cohort, mid A for semster 2.

My English has fallen apart a bit second semester -I stopped trying - it needs a lot of work in order to get what I believe I am capable of.  After semester 1, my current teacher and year 11 teacher said they were expecting a 45.

My dilemma: Politics was dropped long ago, and Further I really don't enjoy and consequently have been performing pretty averagely. Realistically, the only way for further to make a difference would be for me to score 43 - which even so is marked down to 41ish. So even if i got 43 in further it would only bump out legal studies from the top 4 by 1ish marks. Considering all the work I would put into further, to get 40+ , wouldn't that time be better spent on regaining my English skillz (and possibly other subjects)? I would still cram hardcore for further on the day before. Have any of you been a similar situation? What did you do?

Thanks guys  :D

EDIT: I think the title would be clearer if it was worded 'The Strategic option? Maximising Aggregate score while maintaining overall time spent.'

Based on past results, I'd definitely push towards focusing on Methods, Accounting and English.  Further isn't really going to make that much of a difference really, and you're definitely looking for scaled 45+ potentially in those three.

That info you gave me on further (before) was exactly what I was hoping for. Thanks man

english is in your top 4 no matter what, if your unsure that further is going to be in your top 4 then don't stress about it, you've already got legal there so put in all the effort you were going to put in for further on english. getting a high study score in english is more beneficial then getting a lower one and a higher further score which just makes it into your top 4. remember that to get mid 40's for further you need close to 100% for both exams... not worth it if it's going to impact on your english score.

If your English teachers are saying you can get a 45 in English then pick yourself up and literally give everything you have! You are sitting on a lottery ticket here. Give methods all you have and also accounting. These 3 should have all your effort put in them. Further I'm sure you can do reasonably well with cramming and politics you should really do the same with.

Look at it this way:

- English is in your top 4 so if you can get 45 then go for it!

- a 40 in law could potentially be in your top 4.

- with methods if you in a strong cohort then a high 40 could be your study score.

- An A+ for your mid-year exam for accounting would guarentee atleast 43+.

So the question doesn't become why put in the effort for these subjects but why not?
