Section A:
Q2, 7a, 8

Q2 I have no idea
Q7a I don't get what they're asking for? Like on the job and off the job training?
Q8 I can't even think of a business. 😩 I didn't even know that we should know some businesses for the exam. My teacher doesn't tell us these things. Can I just randomly create a business?

Thanks for the help, you're a legend:)

Q2.
I assume for this question you just talk about using a change model in general. You would not need to specifically talk about a change theory such as lewin or senge. Unfortunately, I don’t have a response for this question as I did not get full marks for this.

Q7a:

Training option can either be on-the-job or off-the-job. Whenever you see training option come up on the exam always think on or off the job training as it is explicitly listed as a dot point in the study design.

Answer:
One training option that would be appropriate for Grocer Plus to multi skill its employees if off-the-job training. This is where employees develop and enhance their skills and expertise outside of the workplace. This can be achieved through lectures, simulations, workshops, online courses, tertiary education etc. Off-the-job training allows employees at Grocer Plus to learn a variety and greater depth of skills who may be experts who are specialists. This may include customer service training, proper bagging technique, continuous improvement and various corporate initiatives etc. As a result, employees at Grocer Plus will be multi- skilled.

-   You can also justify on-the-job training for this question

Q8.

Your teacher should have taught you a number of business case studies as you are required to know it according to the study design. I wouldn’t advise you on randomly creating a business but if worse comes to worse, then I guess you have no choice (try and make it realistic). Some businesses you might consider using, include Qantas, AU Post, Aldi, Woolworths. Personally, I use Qantas. This question has a number of key words; CSR, operations and stakeholders. Ensure that you include every aspect of the question in your response. Try to make a mini plan before starting 10 marker as it helps sort out your ideas and avoid poor structuring.

Answer:
Qantas is a publicly listed company and in 2014, it recorded a $300 million loss. Alan Joyce, the CEO, has implemented a range of cost reduction strategies to rectify this issue. This includes introducing smaller aircrafts, re-routing plane routes to minimise fuel usage and reduce employee numbers. Operations involves converting inputs into outputs as efficiently and effectively as possible. This can be achieved by using a range of strategies such as waste minimisation, quality management, investment in technology or materials management. Within Qantas’s operations system, there are key elements that consists of inputs, process and outputs. Alan must ensure that he shows exemplary corporate social responsibility to each of the key elements. Corporate social responsibility is how a business conducts in an environmental, social, sustainable and ethical manner that goes above and beyond legal obligations.

Inputs are the raw materials, capital, labour, time equipment etc. that is used in the production process. As Alan Joyce implements his fuel efficiency program, he must ensure that he is being environmentally sustainable and friendly. To do this, Alan may need to source their plane fuels through an ethical supplier that ensures that the fuel is renewable. This will reduce the amount of fossil fuels being used by Qantas and also reduce their carbon footprint as they are emitting less carbon emissions. Thus, complying and fulfilling CSR.

Process is the transformation of inputs into outputs. Alan could ensure that he is being environmentally friendly by reducing waste. Additionally, Alan could implement extra quality checks to ensure high quality. Quality control could be used here where regular inspections are conducted in the production process.

Outputs is the transformed inputs that is returned to the external environment as a good or service. Alan should ensure he creates flights and in-flight services are fit for purpose and value for money. This will show passengers that Alan cares for the wellbeing of his customers and thus being socially ethical.

General Community is a stakeholder that has a vested interest in Qantas and may be potentially affected by these decisions. An advantage of the decision is that Qantas is emitting less carbon emissions which will further decrease their contribution to pollution. This will provide the general community with a safer and healthier environment to live in. However, a potential disadvantage is that the redundancies of employees at Qantas due to the reduction of employees may increase unemployment rates. This may result in higher crime rates and thus decrease the social wellbeing and job prospects. Despite the disadvantages such as increased unemployment rates, the advantages outweigh them as Qantas’s decisions will make satisfy the general community by ensuring a health and safe environment.

Thank you so much, it definitely has helped me. I think I'll plan the 10 marker during reading time. Just checking with the mark allocations for that question? I've always struggled to identify mark allocations. Would it be for Q8 that:
- 3 marks for each key element of operations system
- 3 marks for how CSR applies to each key element of the operations system
- 2 marks for evaluating potential effects on one stakeholder

Do you reckon this is right?

Hi, glad it helped. I would say your mark allocation is correct but you only covered 8 marks. It is a 10 marker so I think that the evaluate is 4 marks instead of 2. Evaluate questions are never a 2 marker.

Hey! One thing to keep in mind, is that the 10 markers are marked globally. What this means, is that the response isn't 'checked off' as the examiner reads it, rather, a final score is awarded after the whole piece is read. If the examiner thinks it is a 'high' response, it'll get 8-10, with categories falling into allocated point ranges. So, in some cases, there may not be a reasonable mark tally based on task words.

Are all VCAA papers with large questions marked globally? Yea I know that some papers from other companies do say they're marked globally but I personally find it easier to think of a marking scheme because makes it easier so that you know what to cover when writing the response.
