Melbourne High Year 10 Entry in 2019

I was wondering because of how cheesy this sounds but I "forgot" to try for the entry to Year 9 if I would be able to enter at Year 10? I do realise the chances are like finding a needle in a haystack; 28 from around ~350. Overall,I am very friendly and an eager student that enjoys learning. I am currently studying for the academic tests of the entry. Does anyone know what I could do that would improve my chances of getting in at Year 10? Or how much of the academic tests affects your acceptance In Year 10? I just want to know what I should do to improve my chances. More sports? More studying? More leadership?  Thank you :)

I think you to sign up for year 10 entry via Melbourne High's website next year or so (?)
And yes, your grades on your test for MHS has a significant impact on getting into the school.
For year 10, they do get quite picky but it's good that you both play violin (I do to!) and you're very good at table tennis; this can increase your odds. But first you need to get good grades in the exam before proceeding (from what I've read) to an interview.
Best of luck! :D
2019: 1/2 Psych

2020: English, Bio, Chem, Psych, HHD, Methods

2021: bye bye psych :D

I do realise the chances are like finding a needle in a haystack; 28 from around ~350. I am pretty good in table tennis, I also played badminton before and liked it. Hockey is pretty fun to me as it consists of running, I am improving on it. I was okay at running. I suck at swimming. I also learnt martials arts until I stopped in Year 6, got in to the fourth sash. I am also currently learning violin, have learnt for 5 years, but not doing grades; an estimated level would be Grade 5-7. Overall,I am very friendly and an eager student that enjoys learning. I am currently studying for the academic tests of the entry. Does anyone know what I could do that would improve my chances of getting in at Year 10? I am going to trying put for MHS next year... You sound like the perfect student, but don’t forget MHS is a selective school, so they do select the kids who do well academically. Hope to hear more from you!!! Also use the forum that marks essays for you, trust me, it will help a lot with your preparation for the exam...

Good luck 🏻🏻🏻🏻

I've got another question, does your NAPLAN results go towards this? If so that'd be great because my NAPLAN results in Year 7 was pretty good.

Reading, Spelling and Grammar & Punctuation in Band 9 , Writing in Band 7 :/ and Numeracy in triangle. Sorry for my anxiousness, I just really want this place at MHS. I still can't believe I didn't even apply this year.. uh...  "The Academic Ability Assessment Test is conducted on behalf of the School by Edutest. Unlike Year 9 entry, the academic assessment is not used as the main determinant of offers." an extract from the Year 10 Enrolment page on the MHS website.
I applied for year 10 entry in Mac rob. From my experience, they did not ask for my naplan results. Suppose they evaluate your acdemic performance in the entrance exam? However, MHS might differ from Mac rob despite both are selective schools.

Hey guys, just to give an update, I’m now a SRC and am applying for community service, and I have been invited to an accelerated maths program for next year, do you think I should still get a specialised maths book for the selective school exam? I’m thinking of doing the holiday program from Henderson’s tutoring for numerical & verbal reasoning; maths; creative & persuasive writing; and comprehension, for Christina’s I’m also going to get the exam packs from spectrum tutoring, which include writing tips...

Hugo

Please PM for any things you think would be useful!!!

Nice guys! I'm mostly studying maths ATM for JMSS! Congrats on getting SRC captain I also recently got elected as middle years language captain! Extra Curricular can help alot especially if you aren't the most academically smartest trying out! For me I've done tennis comp, state chess, athletics in the past, piano and obviously a few academic awards too! In regards for tutoring, most tutor places a way beyond the test but can help with speed and advice. I'm personally considering doing it 2 months before my exam to get quicker and to prepare but self-studying should be sufficient right now. Good luck guys, I know a few people who have gotten into Melb high in year 10 who said it was a tough but rewarding experience!

Hi I was just wondering what year you are in?

Also, are any of you friends on ATAR notes, and if so could you please PM me their details?

Thanks so much, like I mentioned beforehand I’m going to be taking courses on each topic from Henderson’s. I’m also going to buy the exam pack from spectrum tutoring.

I got a lot of awards from school, last year, and all my reports look good for this year and last year, the only thing is I didn’t get many awards this year, will that be a problem?

I'm in Year 8 right now! I forgot to take the Year 9 entrance exam this year but instead I'm trying out for John Monash as science interests me a lot more! I don't think any of my friends who have joined ATAR notes but I might contact them to see if they can help you out for MHS

I was just wondering if anybody could give me a bit on info, on the writing portion of the exam. I read on the edu-test website that it could be creative, descriptive, narrative, persuasive, expository or information piece. So I’m slightly confused, could anyone please give me some info on this?
