What Goal-Setting Process have you learnt?

I've seen heaps of discussion about the goal-setting process that people are learning (I don't even think it'll be mentioned on the exam but I'm still interested) and I just wanted to see what people on ATARNotes have done..
This is what I've learnt:
 - Manager / Employee establish goals using SMART
- Employee undertakes jobs towards the goal
- Periodic feedback is given by management
- Determine and Evaluate success of reaching set goal
- Recognition - reward if goal met, further training if not met

I've learnt that:

Management should set goals that are clear, specific, challenging, but not overwhelming. These goals should be collaboratively set with employees, and regular feedback should be given on task completion and recognition for effort. The goal should be encompassed through the 5 goal setting principles; clarity, challenge, commitment, feedback and task complexity. Once the task is completed, management should meet with employee and give rewards where appropriate.

I was always told that SMART goals was not to be used with Locke and Latham's goal setting theory.. it's weird how different texts contradict others?!

Is this question related to Locke and Latham's Goal Setting Theory?

If you were to talk about it, in the theory you'd have to mention the key principles of clarity, challenge, task-complexity, commitment, and feedback.
These principles are encompassed by the SMART acronym, and should be related to the model of setting a goal, being motivated to complete it, and the improved performance from that motivation.

These principles can also be generally applied to goals in the workplace with managers and employees.

I haven't heard of these principles all year, but they don't look too hard to learn.... I think my teachers went wrong somewhere ahah

Thanks guys!

In my textbook, Jigsaw is 100% correct, the SMART goals are not a part of Locke's theory, but they are related. You shouldn't use SMART when discussing key parts of this theory.

I second this for sure. It is very ordinary..fortunately I had this corrected at a Teaching Bubble lecture.

My school is actually moving from the Jacaranda textbook to the Cambridge one, because unit 4 is so poorly explained!

Haha, don't worry...Cambridge's explanation of Unit 4 is incredible broad and contains a ton of filler. I'd say almost 40% of it is full page case studies with little relevance. I think its more the study design that is a tad broad...

Probably has something to do with the new study design and a few things being unclear, lets hope both companies make some new editions for next year
