How did you express displacement, as a vector or vector magnitude, and why?

displacement is a vector quantity since it specifies both magnitude and direction so it should be expressed as that i think, basically if you take the magnitude of it you're just getting a distance from it without the direction

Here's a copy of my solutions - they are mostly the same as Worm's, although I've approached some of the questions a bit differently, so I thought it might be worth uploading anyway in case anyone was interested :)

RE Q5: I agree with JOHNSMITH II, and I've checked the solutions by substituting back in

EDIT: I'm not too sure about the answer for Q4: my answer assumes the 68%-95%-99.7% rule, but others have said 0.023 could be the answer.

EDIT2: Also let me know if there's anything you don't agree with - these answers aren't 100% :)

i think question 4 should be 0.025 (instead of 0.250), how did others get 0.023? i also assumed 68 95 99.7% rule.

The actual value to 3 d.p. is 0.023. That rule is just an approximation (but I think 0.025 will be accepted).

Thanks so much for that! It's been fixed   :D

The 0.023 comes from the actual value (if you used your calc) - since 95% is only an approximation. I used 0.025 since I assumed VCAA wanted us to use the 68-95-99.7 rule, as it was non-calc.

0.025 will be accepted I don't think 0.023 will be (even if it's the MORE correct answer)

What exam score would I need on exam 2 if I got about 33/40 on exam 1 to get at least a 30 study score?

I am 99% sure 0.023 will NOT be accepted.
The question ASKED for the APPROXIMATE probability to 3 d.p. - hence only 0.025 should be accepted.
It DID NOT ask for the PROBABILITY to 3 d.p - in which case 0.023 would be correct.

I think 40-45/80 would do (not 100% sure though)

Hi guys I got 27-30/40 (not really sure what the marking scheme is like and if I'd get consequential marks for arithmetic errors made in the first step) for exam 1, and am scoring about 60/80 on exam 2s. SACs have been in the 75% to 85% range, in a pretty strong cohort. What study score can I expect to get? Sorry for posting this here but I'm kinda desperate :S

So if i were to get 38/40 for exam 1, do I still have a chance at 40+ in spesh, and if so, what exam scores might i need for exam 2?

Thanks (and gud luck to all for exam 2 :) )

38/40 is certainly enough for at least 40 as it is likely the A+ cut off will be 37-38/40. If you get 72+ in exam 2 you should get a 40+ SS
