Hi all,
As we near the end of the year, it suddenly occurs to me that I've gotta start this process of picking and screening new candidates for the moderator positions. Sadly this year we've lost a couple of wonderful people from the moderator staff who are off, pursuing other things in the next stage of their lives, and so we've got to fill the holes that they've left.
Unfortunately, I have not been able to be as active on VN this year as I was last year and in 2007, so I have not been able to see many of the abundantly helpful members strut their stuff.
This is why, for the first time ever, I'm actually going to have you guys apply!
And we're really looking for some humanities applications. Requirements for moderators of these subjects/sections will probably be a bit more lax.
There are 3 types of positions up for grabs.
1) Global Moderator - Moderates the whole of VN. This is a position of immense trust on my part in you. Only responsible people will be selected for this position. You've got to be incredibly active for this position (should have at the very least 500 posts, but ideally 800+) and be very helpful in a wide variety of subjects.
2) Section Moderator - Must have good proficiency in at least two, but preferably three subjects covered in your section. Must be seen to be helpful and active in the boards within your section
3) Subject Moderator - Must have completed the subject you are applying for by the end of 2008 and be extremely knowledgeable in your subject matter. Must be very helpful to members with questions.
Here are the
rules. If you do not follow these to the letter, I'm sorry to say that that will automatically disqualify you:
1) You must have at least 200 posts and have been a member for at least 2 months to apply. The reason being is that you must be an established member of the community to become a moderator. We don't want to hire anyone from off the street and put them in a position of responsibility! If you have less than 200 posts/2 months membership, PM me and I'll tell you if it's worth applying.
2) In order to apply, post a reply to this post according to the following format. The stuff in red text is my instructions to you on how to fill that section out/an example of how to fill it out:
Finishing/finished VCE:
Year you finished/will finish VCEPosition(s) desired:
Place these in preferential order, e.g.
1) Global Moderator
2) Section Moderator (Business)
3) Subject Moderator (Accounting)
4) Subject Moderator (Economics)
5) Section Moderator (LOTE)
6) Subject Moderator (LOTE: Japanese)
7) Subject Moderator (Mathematical Methods)
That would be an example of someone who did well in Accounting, Economics and Japanese's preferences. Of course, you don't have to put "Global Moderator" or "Section Moderator" in your preferences, you may just be content with moderating the one board, but this example is just to showcase how you're supposed to apply to the various positions on offer.
3)
THE ABOVE INFORMATION IS ALL THAT IS NEEDED IN YOUR APPLICATION, NO MORE, NO LESS. POSTING ANYTHING MORE (e.g. talking yourself up)/LESS WILL RESULT IN DISQUALIFICATION OF YOUR APPLICATION.The process will end on Results Day, 2009, where all the new moderators will be announced. In special cases, some may be picked earlier in time for VCE exams/aftermath.
Please post questions regarding these applications in General Site Discussion, and I hope to see as many applications as possible!

Good luck.
