Hi there! Welcome to the thread! Btw, are you saying that you've heard that there's a group activity that occurs in the exam? (Just need your clarification)

Do people travel long distances for Jmss?

If I got accepted to the school last year, then no, I wouldn't travel long distances for JMSS. It would only take me around 10 minutes to get there. : )))))))

Hey, I'm interested in going to JMSS and a few of my friends are too. I really like science and maths etc. but i'm worried i might not do well enough to get in. I don't have any extra-curriculars, I did one compulsary maths comp and got a distinction, I only get ~80% on tests and stuff like that (tests freak me out and I can't focus and overthink). I'm in year 8 and I really want to be in JMSS in year 10 but I don't know if ill cut it. I can't afford things like practice tests and stuff and my parents couldn't care less if I messed up the test so i'm putting pressure on myself which doesn't seem healthy. Anyway, I have a few questions that i need help with:

1. What is the acceptance rate? (I couldnt find it online)
2. What parts of science and maths should I study for and get good in?
3. What are the tests like? I've never sat for a big test like this; all the ones I've sat were in a classroom
4. What were your year 7-9 test scores like?
5. Is edukingdom's JMSS prep worth it?

thats about it for now but ill probs check back soon. this thread has been super useful  :)

1. varies each year. generally around 25%
2. just know your y8/9 textbooks and you’ll be fine. imo focus more on maths than science.
3. one big room 5 tests with a break in between.
4. 7) 70%ish
8) 60% ish
9) 90%+
5. can’t comment on that since i went to james an.

yes. i’m not sure how many try out but around 20-30 get in each year

yes and yes. it’s pretty new and warm though. and carpeted with a view of caulfield racecourse.

quick question, how many people are in a year group and if you had to guess, how many people normally sit for the test?

Oof, it's been a while XD.

5. Is edukingdom's JMSS prep worth it?
I don't recommend going to Edu-Kingdom, James Ann, etc. or buying practice exams. It is not necessary. You can still kick ass at the entrance exams without them -- just make sure you work efficiently under exam conditions and know how to tackle different problems (whether it may be a mathematical or reasoning question or worded response).

What kind of questions should I expect on the test?

Ones that aren't that difficult :P

Are you allow to bring any watches to the testing? Analog or digital watches? Thanks
I think you might be able to. I brought in a digital watch. Though, they told us to take off watches and leave them on our table.

Honestly man, I'm not certain on the structure you're supposed to follow. I personally followed the typical essay structure with 1 intro, 3 body paragraphs and 1 conclusion (plus the TEEL structure). I managed to do fine somehow. Use your planning time effectively to organise your body paragraphs.
When faced with a problem, you either find a way or an excuse.
