What novel/s do we need for 2018 Englang?

So I'm looking through the booklist and I can't find any novels needed for Englang next year? Do we just need the lingo textbooks???

I'm so confused  :o :o :o Any insight is thoroughly appreciated!

Yeah, as Joseph said, you won't need to get any novels for EngLang (hooray!). The texts that you do analyse in EngLang will be much shorter than novels, probably about a page-length or so, and these will all be supplied by your teacher next year. The Living Lingo textbook was all that I used in Year 12  ;D

In English Language you don't focus on specific texts throughout the year,  instead you learn skills and content to be able to analyse any text you are given.

The texts we write on in the exam we see for the first time then. This is true throughout all your assessments.

If you're super keen to read some novels though, I'd recommend looking at some of Julian Burnside's and David Crystal's books. One such example is Word Watching by Julian Burnside. They're usually anecdotal or discuss the linguistics of different situations, however, it is purely optional.

No, you don't NEED (this is too absolute) the Living Lingo textbook. Our school actually didn't tell us to get it. The two other official books you should get for this subject are VCE English Language Exam Guide 3rd Edition and English Language for Senior Students: A guide to metalanguage (both by Kirsten Fox). Novels are not required, same with any other paid resource. Your novel for Englang is actually the newspapers, where you will be analysing contemporary language use as opposed to old books.
