Tricky question I have here -

Because I did my HSC over 2016 and 2017, my ATAR will be compiled up from the statistics from both those years - correct? Should I trust ATAR calculators then cause mine is a bit more tricky?

Eng Standard: 94 (very shocked about this holy shit)
Biology: 92 (couldve done better but oh well)
Maths: 83
Chemistry: 82
French Beginners: 91

Overall really happy with my results, they were waaay better than what I expected (especially for english!!). I also think they were very lenient with the marking this year. ATAR calculators are putting me at around 91-94. Trying not to get my hopes up as some are quite unreliable.. anyway I’m just hoping for the best tomorrow :)
ATAR: 93.35

You should never trust ATAR calculators fully - they're only intended as a guide. :)

Do we put a mark out of 50 or 100 in the atarnotes ATAR Calculator for 1 units?

As a Victorian, thanks for the invitation to make fun of you! I think it's good that we both get our ATARs on the same day, so it's not like we get study scores today with you, along with our ATARs while you have to wait. Congrats on all your study scores, and good luck for your ATARs tomorrow!!

OKAY so I got:

Bio - 93 (SO HAPPY WITH THIS!!)
chem - 78 (upset bc i was so close to a b5, and i should have tried harder in the lead up to the exams :( )
sor 2 - 91 - actually really proud of myself for this, I got 80 for trials and I stressed so much the night before this exam omg. Was running on 2 hours of sleep.
sac - 91 - v happy with these two but I was hoping for more for sac considering it was my easiest subject
english - 88 - my internals were 92 so this was disappointing to me as well :( I think i really bombed paper 1 which is saddening, I really thought I was gonna make it.

overall I'm pretty happy though. I do wish I put in more effort throughout the year but hey, at least it's done. well done to the class of 2k17 for making it :D

Great job everyone :) I'll take care of some of the unanswered questions I see
Eng Adv: 94
2u maths: 97
3u maths: 49
Bio: 91
Chem: 88
Chinese: 88

Not bad, little disappointed. Quick question for the atar calc do i put 49 or 98 for 3u.
Try experimenting with both. I put in 98 because I did 4u (and it should be 98 in either case) but you can't be sure
Hey so im kind of stuck and i know its early but im a bit stress. Me and this other kid are vying for dux of the school (big assumption). He's purely hsie and english and im a science and maths guy. does the difficulty of this years science and maths exams mean that the marks should scale better? the difference rn is like 0.15.

also what are the marks we have been given? have they been fully moderated across course or what? how much changes between today and tomorrow?
The relative difficulty of each year's paper compared to other years will impact on this algorithm very slightly. But you won't know who's the dux until on the day. You can't actually measure by how much harder it is; NESA and UAC only have everyone's marks, not some kind of magic absolute scale.

Your HSC marks have been moderated and aligned already. They will not change.
Hey guys,

I cant really wait till merit lists comes out LOL, do u guys think 97 for legal can get a state ranking or nah?
Jamon got his 13th with a 98. So it's really hard to say, because the possibility is out there but just how large that chance is - well, who knows

Yep; 2016 statistics will influence the three subjects you did that year.
You should never trust ATAR calculators fully - they're only intended as a guide. :)
Will comment - They usually don't hit the spot but they can be quite decently accurate on the day of the HSC results release (for many people, give or take 0.5 at most). The alignment algorithm isn't usually bizarre enough to make previous years' calculations that off

Do we put a mark out of 50 or 100 in the atarnotes ATAR Calculator for 1 units?

Anna
Had a quick look and it seems to behave weirdly. For MX1 it appears as though you need a mark out of 100 whereas for SOR I you need a mark out of 50. Give both of them a try and look at which one is more appropriate

NSW HSC 2017:
EngAd 94 6
EngX1 48 E4
MHist 94 6
Relig1 48 6
VisArts 95 6
FrenC 92 6

My marks were all moderated very weirdly. I was a bit disappointed in Modern because I was sitting on 97 internally and I got 94 in the HSC but strangely they moderated my internal down to 94 too! But on the other hand, my French mark got moderated up by heaps, I am so stoked I somehow managed a Band Six in it, I thought it was impossible after my internal marks. Everything else was around as expected but the French mark easily cancelled out the disappointment with Modern. Can anyone explain how moderation works because most people I know got the middle of the internal and external but all my internals got moderated basically to match my HSC mark? Definitely not complaining because it helped out in French so much but just curious :)
^^ These were my predictions from the prediction thread. The marks below are my actual marks:

English (Standard): 89
Mathematics: 82
Ancient History: 86
Visual Arts: 94
Society & Culture: 88

Overall thoughts: I'm genuinely surprised by English and SAC. I wasn't expecting a 89 for English (after that horrid Harry Lavender essay in Paper Two) and even an 88 for SAC! (we didn't even finish the syllabus and I had to teach myself in the month leading up to the HSC). So close to getting that Band 6 for English but that's all in the past now. I'm surprised by the wonders of scaling for my maths mark. I was expecting a 70+ because my internal average was 69% but it scaled up to a 82? (this still confuses me. How does scaling, moderation and ranks even work?). My prediction for Ancient History was very very close. I wasn't expecting to get 88 for the exam after that cringey Athens and Sparta in Section 4 ahahhaha. I know I got a Band 6 for Visual Arts butI  am a bit disappointed because I know I could've done better in the exam (it was strangely harder than trials????) But hey! 94 is still decent. I've been plugging my marks in every calculator on the internet and there's a possibility I can get 90-91. I gotta prepare myself for tomorrow.
Dunno if Jamon's guide reached you guys about the craziness that is mark adjustment

I'm using different ATAR calculators and getting results that vary from 86-98... I can't understand why there'd be such a variation? I know atar calculators aren't meant to be super accurate but I didn't expect a 12 mark limbo haha. Anyone else experienced this?

Seeing as though you take EX1 and MX1, potentially it's caused by some calculators registering marks out of 50 and marks out of 100?
