premiers
« on: January 05, 2018, 09:59:45 pm »
So i was lucky enough (really really lucky) to get a 50 in English this year and i just ordered my results to see how lucky I was considering my SACS were pretty average all year. It turns out i got a 60 on my exam and i guess that means I have a shot at premiers and i just had a few questions about like what is a premiers and how they figure it out. Could someone fill me in on the general deets?

A premiers award is given to the 5 best 50's in a subject (and sometimes even 48's and 49's in some subjects with small enrolments). You generally need rank 1 sacs and 100% or close to 100% on the exams to be given a premiers award.
Hope this helps :)

I’m not sure on exact numbers but it’s definitly a percentage so there will be more for larger cohorts like English.

You can check the exact number of recipients for each subject by searching 'Premier's VCE Award 2017', It can tell u the approximate number of awards for each subjects in 2018. For English I think It was around 10 last year??? I contacted VCAA for the criteria two years ago, they said, some subjects only have one recipient (with 100-350 enrollment) and three for enrollment number between 350 to 2000, and more for more enrollment...

Surely they put more emphasis on exam score rather than SAC scores?

What did your sacs scale to?

They would really just rank you via weighted standerdised scores and the top X places would get it.

So you can technically get SS above 50 when all the mathematical calculations are done but they just truncate anything above it down to a 50.
