Good choice! this is what our class did and it's fairly easy. Since the bio skills are really important to practice, I will once again give only some questions to consider as guidance to create your own method rather than giving you the method I did.
- how will you determine the sunlight levels?
- what equipment is needed?
- how many plants will you use?
- how will you control all other variables?
- how do you set up the experiment?
- how do you run the experiment?
- how will you measure the dependent variable?
Write down all the steps needed to address these questions (and any others I may have missed) in a logical order so that if another person was to come accross your method they would be able to repeat the experiment.
Here is an example of how to write up the method, but for a different prac:
Independent variable: Temperature
Dependent variable: Clotting time
Control: milk with no rennin
1. make a rennin solution by crushing the rennin tablets and dissolving it in distilled water. Divide this solution into 4 small beakers and keep at the required temperatures (. O°C, 25°C, 40°C and 100°C)
2. Turn on hotplates, one on high the other on medium.
3. Label 4 test tubes A and 4 test tubes B
4. Place the test tubes A and B in a number of different water baths at different temperatures ranging from 0 °C to
100 °C (e.g. O°C, 25°C, 40°C and 100°C).
5. Make sure each water bath is kept at a constant temperature.
6. Label each test tube with the temperature of the water bath.
7. Add 3 mLs of milk to each test tube. Allow time for the contents of both test tubes to come to the temperature of
the water bath.
8. Add the 3 mLs of rennin solution to each test tube labelled A. Mix thoroughly before placing the test tube
back into the water bath.
9. Time the interval between adding the rennin and curdling the milk.
