Best Uni for Law???

Hey guys! I'm a year 12 student interested in studying law in 2019! I'm not sure if this is the correct place to post this, but I was wondering what universities you think have the best law courses? If you're another year 12 student, what universities are you considering? Also, does the University of Wollongong have a good law course because I'm considering going there. What are your thoughts? Obviously I'm not going to make any clear cut decisions but I'd just like to know what other people think!

Thank you!  :)

Hey! To answer your question, the top-ranked Australian law school is the Melbourne Law School (Melbourne uni). However, it's my understanding that all 'Group of 8' (Melbourne, Monash, Sydney, UNSW, Adelaide, UWA, ANU, UQ) universities pretty much hold the same level of prestige in the legal profession in the eyes of employers. Law is a bit of an 'elitist' profession in the sense that there is a tendency for employers to look down upon those who have graduated from a non-GO8 university (particularly in the current climate where there is a massive oversupply of law graduates across the country). Of course, someone who attended a non-GO8 uni but blitzed their course with HDs and finished top of the class is going to be looked upon much more favourably by employers than someone who graduated from a G08 uni but only got passes and credits. Your marks are, at the end of the day, far more important than the uni you attended. But having said that, there is still a degree of prestige-based elitism that permeates the legal profession. As for the University of Wollongong's law program, I'll leave that for others to comment on as I'm not really too familiar with it. Best of luck with all of your endeavours :)

Thanks for the information! But yeah, I'm worried about going to UOW in case it will decrease my chances for employment. I mean of course I love law and the uni I go to will not matter in the respect that I will be studying what I love, but I don't want to be let down when I finish the course. Do you know if universities produce the most law grads other than any other degree? I always thought that there were heaps of medicine grads (I don't know the correct terminology for it lol). Also, is it true that UNSW only takes 100 students for the law course each year??

Hey!

I am currently in Year 12 and I am also hoping to study law in 2019! My definite first preference is UNSW and second preference is UTS. Personally, these are the only 2 universities that I want to go to so hopefully something good happens this year!!
HSC 2018 - (ATAR: 99.10)
English Advanced (90) | General Mathematics 2 (95) | Business Studies (98 - 6th in NSW) | Legal Studies (94) | Economics (93) | Studies of Religion 1 (48)
