Having High Expectations and being an overachiever

Hey
It's been a hot minute since I got my half yearly results back and it's undoubtedly hard dealing with not being able to meet very high expectations that I set for myself -- it's not just a simple solution of saying "well then..lower ur expectations" because i guess its a personal goal and I also want to keep my options open for uni admissions (aiming for 99.5+)
Has anyone else felt this way??

My half yearly marks have been:
4u Maths: 90% 1st
Chemistry: 94% 2nd
Physics: 76% ((unsure of rank- but i was 1st in the first assessment)
English Adv: 91% (unsure of rank)

Also, I did accelerated 3u maths last year so :
3u Maths (accelerated): HSC mark - 48/50
2u Maths (accelerated): HSC mark - 96/100

Am I on the right track??? Is it normal to feel disappointed?? I have a plan made for the upcoming school holidays to work on my mistakes and weaknesses of my half yearlys so.... thank u !!!!

Hey, you have the same ATAR goal as me!! I need 99.5 to get into the course I want at uni!
I think it's cool how you have such high expectations of yourself but you should remember to not be so hard on yourself at times...

Omg I have the same predicament as you, of aiming for a high ATAR just to keep my options open without actually knowing what I want to do. Perhaps your standards are different to mine, holy hell those marks are objectively incredible!! It definitely seems like you're on the right track imo, it seems like you're ranking well too and ultimately that's all that matters, so I don't think it's anything to be concerned about really!

Haha, I'm trying to get into Arts/Law at USYD!

Yeah it's such a high ATAR goal but at least it's better than those people in my grade who want to do Medicine!! Can't even imagine how much pressure they're putting on themselves with 99.95 ATAR goals, interviews, UMAT etc.

Hey there! I did my HSC last year but I absolutely know what you're talking about! From what I can see, you're doing really well (and certainly better than how I was doing after my half-yearlies). This period between now and the HSC is the best time to make a lot of progress.
Channel that desire to do well, and stay motivated. You'll be okay, have faith in yourself.
Now go get that 99.5 ATAR! :D

Great advice! Still quite a long way until end of year exams. Try not to be too upset with your results; although they are important, it's more important that you learn from each experience. I'd suggest attempting to identify what prevented you from getting the mark you hoped for (made too many silly mistakes, didn't know content well enough, didn't have enough time to complete exam etc.)  and then make a plan to ensure they won't happen again. Keep working hard, keep trying to improve, and I think you'll be alright :)
