This with an extra rubber grip added on from a cheapo pacer. I've been using these ever since VCE. They also happen to be great for pen spinning  :D

I swear by the Officeworks-brand 4 pen. Blue ink used.

...Freaky, I've been doing the EXACT same thing, with the exactly same pen... =.=

Spinning is bad, distracts me too much =[

Worse than the actual spinning is the pen dropping that inevitably follows. Hate it when my pen falls under the chair in the row in front of me in lectures =_="

EDIT: Oh wow, I only just realised the point of this thread was COLOUR, not which pen. Whoops. Well yeh, blue. For English, definitely stick to either normal blue or black. Don't go for the light blue gel; I've had teachers not really like reading it before.

Some black 0.5mm chinese ink (I think it's gel ink...) and pen I bought off an exchange student (had 40 ink cartridge things at the start of the year and down to 5 or so now...they waste like crazy!). I've been using them the whole year for all subs (especially maths) but I've started preferring just normal black ballpoint pens (the 4-pen) when I write English essays.
When I get sad, I stop being sad, and be AWESOME instead. True story.

I think English assessors really like it when you use a really dark pen (either black or blue) so its easy for them to read when they're tired or whatever.

I would suggest to try out a lot of pens before the exams, and find the right one for you.
I remember in my yr 12 lit class, we spent a good period talking about the merits of different pens to use in the exam, and admiring a classmate's pen (it was really nice and wrote perfectly :P).... good times.....

I actually cracked open Kilometricos to take the ink from them to put into the pen I mentioned above for my English exam. The ink and ball they have is so smooth to write with <3
