MOV - Speech

Hey AN ppl,

I have a speech coming up for Merchant of Venice. The statement to address:

His fellow playwright and friend Ben Jonson described William Shakespeare as "not of an age, but for all time".
Discuss how Shakespeare's play, 'The Merchant of Venice', remains relevant today by encouraging audiences to explore important social issues.

Just wanting some ideas on what to discuss.... was thinking along the lines of racism and inequality of women but wondered if anyone had ideas which packed a bit more punch???

Thnks  ;)
So close to the end!!!!

Hello headsup,
I had the same task and discussed the fickleness of human nature and how that has resonated through the centuries, with the themes of love/marraige and appearance vs. reality/ deception. I spoke about jessica and lorenzos love for the first theme, linked that to appearance vs reality with quotes etc and then spoke about portia and the golden caskets etc.
and say how great shakespeare is cos english teachers wont give u a good mark if you disagree with the question >:(
dont forget to follow the essay structure even though it is a speech ::)
not sure if that helps :)
