So I’m in year 10, and I’m technically doing three 1 and 2s, which are biology economics and the new Chinese course called Chinese Language Culture and Society. It’s a course designed for people who are not confident in their Chinese ability or just new students to the Chinese Language. The problem is, I’m not entirely sure about whether or not I should pursue the subject next year. My teacher claims that only three schools are doing it including ours, and she is saying that everyone doing it has had no prior knowledge of learning Chinese. I’ve learnt Chinese from year 7, I’ve been ok at it but nothing amazing. Anyways, I want to know the scaling of this subject, because I am debating whether I should do this subject or further maths 3 and 4 next year to complement methods 1 and 2. This girl in my class claims that it is scaled up by 6 or 7, but I find it hard to believe that, and my Chinese teacher is simply saying that it is scaled up a lot but not as much as Chinese SL.
Any help would be appreciated!

Since Chinese culture is a new subject, it’s very difficult to estimate the scaling as there is no way to gauge the relative strength of the cohort. I assume VCAA consider it a language so it should receive the automatic +5 scaling bonus at the median. I’d say your teacher is probably right saying that it will scale decently but not as much as Chinese SL.
