Hello Guys,
I'm currently new to ATARNotes and im here to get some advice about general maths unit 1 and 2, Im currently in year 11 and the subjects that i am doing is Legal Studies, English, Gen Math, Psychology, Health and Human Development and VET Com serv. In general maths i am currently doing average and i feel like i am not getting any better as my results are consistently in the 60s and i want to achieve high but i dont know how to get any better. For year 12 i am aiming for a 50 in further but at this rate i feel like i wont the result i want. I would like some advice about general maths especially what to do when there is a problem solving question. Usually i feel i have trouble getting the question and i end up getting it wrong.
Thanks,
Welcome to Atarnotes! Hope you've had a pleasant time in the short time you've been here!
Regarding General Maths Unit 1 and 2, the key thing is to
practice, practice and practice more. Another thing to note is that Unit 1 and 2 is basically the same as Further Maths 3 and 4, so you have this year to solidify your understanding of the various concepts as well as practice in order to solidify this. The next year is when you can really practice all the questions you want to in order to get that 50 you want. If you have any questions this year, don't hesitate to ask your teacher, same goes for the next year.
Also, as a former Further student, I found out that practice goes a long way in Further. I had one 90%, one 40%, one 50% and one 80% for my 4 SACs but did pretty good in the two exams due to myself practicing my weaknesses [matrices and financial] earlier on. This resulted in a 37 raw study score, and while it may not seem good to you, considering my sac scores, this is the high end of the raw score for me.
So all in all,
practice, ask questions, learn from mistakes, solidify as much as you can this year and don't get bummed out because of low marks, because you can easily learn from it and not make the same mistake and lose a few marks in the actual exam, which is the most important [though sac scores are also important] because of the higher worth. So good luck on this year and next year! All the best in your studies!
