Age and VCE

Hello,
Sorry to bother everyone but I would like to know if age affects your atar. Say you are a year ahead or a year behind will that affect your overall score. Say you started school early or late and you did all required years, will that affect your VCE atar marks.

Yours Sincerely,
TryHard :)

Hey,

No need to apologise, we're here to help with questions! It most certainly won't affect your ATAR at all. Hell, last year there was a student about 60 years of age! It won't change a thing.

It won't affect your ATAR directly. That is, you don't get "advantaged" or "disadvantaged" inherently by being older or younger. To account for age in this way would be pretty difficult, and probably inappropriate.

I'm only postulating here in suggesting that perhaps age would have some sort of indirect impact in terms of maturity or other factors, but like, VCE is such an individual thing that I'm not sure speaking about averages and stuff is even that relevant. From your perspective, it shouldn't really matter how other people have fared in the past and what their ages have been - instead, try to focus on what you can do to hit your goals. :)

I was a little younger than average (15 at the start and 16 at the end of year 12).  It didn't seem to have much impact.  Maybe I coulda done better doing it 1-2 years later as most of my peers did, but it worked out fine.  I feel like as you get older age matters less and less, and it's nowhere near as important as people think - different people can be at COMPLETELY different emotional maturity levels at the same age.
