Dropping to 5 subjects?

I'm currently taking 4 3/4 subjects, having already done 2 in Year 11. Due to my mental and physical health declining severely, I'm thinking of dropping Classical Studies (which would have been in my bottom 2 subjects anyway). However, I'm looking to get a mid to high 80s ATAR. Will having only 5 subjects in my arsenal get me there? I already have raw scores of 41 and 39 in Revs and Philosophy respectively, if that helps.

Currently, I'm doing 5 VCE subjects and I'm in year 12. One of my biggest regret was not undertaking Biology 1/2 in year 10, which I would've finished in year 11. It would've given me a head start, big or small, but regardless, I'm still aiming for a 90 atar with those 5 vce subjects of mine. I work on the weekends, around 4-6 hours per shift in the city, so a lot of juggling between work and school. I stress a lot, I cry a lot when I get my physics scores back, but I'm not giving up until I finish my exams. My teachers even predicted that I would get at least an 80 atar, so you're in a very good position with your 41 SS and 39 SS.

Furthermore, you dropped the subject that would've been your bottom 2, it won't affect you that much if you're looking at a mid to high 80s atar. Focus on your English! (Since that's where most people are struggling, including me.)

A 90 atar is equivalent to a 160 aggregate so you are basically half way towards that right now.
Doing 5 subjects won't impact you too badly and (sometimes is recommend) for those people who are are aiming for the 80's low 90's.
As long as you try to put in at least a proportion of the time you would have to had spent on a 6th subject into your 3 year 12 subjects it can definitely be a beneficial move.

This is a good tip! Dropping a subject can give some people the illusion of having so much time for their other subjects that they forget to put in effort towards them.

My advice would be to put your health ahead of your studies, and get in contact with your school staff (e.g. VCE coordinator, year level coordinator, your classics teacher, etc.) about wanting to drop the subject due to health concerns and its potential to influence your performance in your other subjects. I did the same by dropping Visual Communication and Design after unit 3 due to health concerns, and it definitely benefited me in the long run.
