That was a interesting test the first part was easy but then last part of 15 and 16 was rough. I guess it's partly down to my study. Like basically I've never actually done a past paper q16 without looking at the answers. Lesson learnt.

They are hard after all. For MX1 basically just watch out for Q14.

What topics were those questions on?

First one was optimisation of some cone. But it was in X not theta and I didn't know how to connect them. The second was a game where you throw two die and then you throw a third die which is between the values of the first two to win. What is the chance you would win? Then the last was a series but the withdrawal grew by 1.05 every time. I got the first part of the questions but the last part was like I had no idea

Lol they curveballed the optimisation again?

So that's the probability everyone's complaining about...

Questions 11-13 were actually fine. To be honest, I'm actually proud of the graph I sketched in Question 13 and managed to figure out a proof for the geometry questions. Question 14 took me a while to complete, and that's where my dodgy working out came in. I wasn't sure what I was doing so I wrote down as much as I could and tried to end up with an answer even though the working out was dodgy. Like, there was a question about finding the k value based on a given equation and there were no stationary points- I'm pretty sure I've encountered a question like that, I just didn't know what to do. There was another question where we had to find a k value under the curve- no clue what to do.

Question 15 and 16 was a nightmare. Like, the last question with the series/financial math, I couldn't find a pattern, it took me awhile to establish an equation. I'm not even sure if I built up the equation correctly. The minima/maxima question there with the cone I struggled with as well. My working out to find the first derivative was a mess, I didn't know what I was doing. And then the final part of the question where we had to find the angle, no clue what I did. I tried to find the second derivative but that turned messy.

Oh yeah, the probability questions were a bit difficult too. There were 3 probability questions, the first one was in the multiple choice. The other two was a bit rough, especially the last one. I didn't know what I was doing because the situation given was weird- like, there was a game where you rolled two dice and the third one had to be the number in between the two numbers you rolled previously. No clue what I was doing so I tried to write down something.

So TL;DR: math was rough. RIP math mark

Think I did pretty well overall. Got answers for every question but I'm not sure if they're right for some in Q15 and 16. Got the last question though which is good

Basically the same... I managed so writing for each question 😋
Definitely better than the trial.... Now just hope for  good mark!!!!

So from what I gather:

A paper that was very much doable, but could easily be flunked just because of the types of curveball questions they gave?

(Also remember, y'all are approaching/already at the end of math forever ;))

There's been complaints about geometry?

I'm pretty average at Maths, but I found it pretty difficult compared to previous past papers.  :-[ Just hoping maths 'scales' well this year, or whatever they call the process.  ;D

MC was okay, but a bit challenging - potentially because I was nervous and trying to rush through them. Did NOT like the weird probability questions. I can't really remember what other areas I found particularly difficult - just a blur of annoying questions, haha! Ahhh - that's right - I think I couldn't work out one of the geometry proofs - I feel like I needed to use sine rule, and something else, but couldn't wriggle my way through it!

The q16 financial question was actually not too bad, because I got both of the two show questions, and made some leeway in the last part. Similarly with the cone question, at least I scraped some marks doing the "show" parts, thankfully.

Did anyone else have to get extra writing booklets?
I had to use 3 extra, but potentially because I left some gaps to try and rework some of the harder questions...

Think I fit into this category, oops!

It happens, curveballs are what put whatever difficulty math papers have into them. Don't stress too much about what's already in the past :)

MCQ: Was okay, I think I got the majority of them
Q11-13: Pretty standard compared with the past few years of HSC exams.
Q14: Series question was interesting, I realised afterwards that you were meant to seperate the 2^n + n into an arithmetic series and a geometric series. I ended up writing out all twenty terms to find the sum (that was a waste).
Q16: The Max Min question was okay, I struggled to find the maximum in terms of theta. The probability question was made a lot easier by writing up a table with the range of values created by each possibility and then working it out from there. The first two parts of the series question were easy enough to prove (find A2 & A3). I struggled with the last part, the only part I worked out was that r=1.05/1.04

What did everyone get for the second part of the probability question in Q16?
