What would I be looking at with
~90% SACs top 20 ranks at a selective school
34/40 Exam 1
70/80 Exam 2

Correction, 28/40 Exam 1 :(

What do you think about my previous question?
I thought overall the exam was "standard' or a touch harder than that - there was a good mix of easy accessible questions and a couple to separate out the top scores.
Question 1-7 were very standard the state should do very well on them. Q8-9 were a total of 15 marks a little bit different and from anecdotal evidence probably done the worst. I wouldn't think the A+ cut-off wouldn't be very different to the past 2 years.

How'd you all find it?

Typed up solutions about to be posted. Stay tuned.

EDIT: Solutions Posted. Please let me know of any suggestions.

EDIT 2: Sorry, formatting stuffed up on first upload. Re-uploaded with fix.

I really wish your solutions are 100% correct, I'd be over the moon! Can someone please confirm with certainty?

Can someone please also confirm whether pi(4n+1) and -pi(4n+1) will get me full marks for 9i and 9ii respectively?

Are VCAA nice enough to give consequential marks for correct working but incorrect answers?

Hoping so

If it doesn't say to put down the x-intercepts, do you still have to do it? I just assumed that because it asked for endpoints and the minima that you didn't need to. Ehhhh

VCAA 2018 Methods Exam 1 Provisional Solutions
Solutions by Daniel Traicos at TWM Publications

Was definitely an interesting exam. A+ cutoff will be 33-34 / 40 I think.

Edit 1: Fixed typo in Q8b and cleaned up its solution.
Edit 2: Added marking allocation

I only wrote pi and - pi for question 9. Would that give me consequential marks...
Didn't write the 2pi n
same

Every year people say that their exams are harder than previous years cause they do it under stressful exam conditions. It would be great if someone who didn't do methods this year gave their opinion on this years exam difficulty.

Overall, pretty decent, if not slightly on the easy side. What distinguished this year from the last couple of years was mainly the massive difficulty spike of Q9 compared to the earlier questions. Not so much because Q9 was extremely hard, but mostly because the earlier questions were unusually easy.

Q9 had echoes of Question 4 from 2015 Exam 2, so students with lots of experience doing past VCAA Qs would have found that question relatively accessible.
