What if my atar is too low?

Hi all,
So at the start of the year i had the initial goal of obtaining a 95+ atar and then going hopefully getting into biomed at melbourne and then go on to do grad med at melb uni, now that exams are done i've realised how foolish i was to think that i'd be able to obtain that with my sh*tty worth ethic. So i've decided to go for science instead as it requires a lower atar and i'll still be able to get into med (and easier to get D's and HD's?! i've heard from past biomed students) as long as i have a high gpa and undertake the three main subjects that are required for med so that was the plan...until the chemistry exam, i just felt like absolute crap and made the most stupid mistakes ever (i think i've lost at least 20-25 marks NOT including careless mistakes) and i feel like the sacs at my school were way too easy as i was getting highs and very highs. btw my subjects are chem, bio,methods,spec,eng lang and i don't have much confidence in getting a 35 raw for any of them as i'm most likely ranked smack bang in the middle for all except for bio where i think i'm at the bottom end. So here comes my question, if i don't get into science at melbourne (or monash but thats too far away from where i live so thats not really an option), what are my chances of doing a bachelor of science majoring in bio at rmit and then transferring into melb science if i maintain a high gpa? and how hard is it to transfer? are there certain subjects i should be doing if i want to transfer into melbourne science?

Chances are generally fairly high, given that your grades are competitive enough. Transfers generally work according to space and availability, so essentially if you're faring well enough and there's the place for you, you should be fine. In order to maximise chances, I'd be choosing units (subjects) based on how similar they are to UoM's syllabus and how much you like them, as these would would make it more likely that you'll be able to get credit for them when you transfer.

I personally think getting into science would give you a better chance at graduate medicine pathway, because it is less intense than biomedicine (according to my friends).

Why do you feel like you can't get into BSci at Melb when you specifically think you did 'bad' in chemistry exam?

Almost everyone I know were successful in transferring to some other course when they didn't like their initial course, so your chances at transferring is very high given that you have a competitive academic record, and there are enough space in the course.

Also, just like what AngelWings said, if you were to study at RMIT, make sure to check which units are accepted at UniMelb - so you can transfer credit and don't start from year 1 again.

I'm just an overly anxious person and its also because i thought that chem would be one of my best given my okay-ish sac scores but yeah fingers crossed that i'll get in to science at melb:)

Don't stress too much about how you think you went you are likely being very harsh on yourself!
I remember feeling the same way when I finished my exams. I didn't even think I was gonna get 80 or 85 because I thought that my work ethic wasn't good enough. I ended up getting a 97. You have probably done much better than you think.

Re: preferences, no matter what your ATAR is going to be, make sure you put your preferences in order of the courses that you want to do the most!! Don't change your preferences around heaps to "match" what ATAR you think you got.
