Related texts: Rosemary Dobson selected poems

Hello everyone,

was wondering on what related texts are great for the poems of Rosemary Dobson?? are there any texts that further explore the common themes that run through all her poems?? I would love if there are any texts that place a significant emphasis on 'memory' as a theme. So far, I have been thinking of 'lion' the film as one but I'm not so sure. I have been looking for quite some time, but haven't found any. Please Help!!!1

Hey there!

I would suggest Death of a River Guide By Richard Flanagan. It’s an OUTSTANDING novel which deals with memory, the meaning and transience of life, etc. It is set on the Franklin River as a river guide is drowning, but goes back in time and explores not only his memories, but the memories of his family. It’s incredibly sophisticated and a good read!

That being said, Lion is a brilliant film and would be a great choice.

Hello again!

I have just updated the compilation of ORTS and added two possible texts for Rosemary Dobson, one being Death of a River Guide and the other being The Glass Menagerie by Tennessee Williams. The play is described by the author himself as a 'memory play' so perhaps it could also be an option? It's very well known in the literary circle and as it's a play, it won't take as much time to study as a novel.
