What do I do?

Hello everyone.
Unfortunately, I didn't receive an offer to my first preference, Monash MBBS.
My backup plan was to take the guaranteed entry pathway at Melbourne but I'm utterly devastated. Right now, I feel the worst I've ever felt in my life, like I'm absolutely useless. I can't fathom myself doing or enjoying another career.
What are the chances of getting a second round offer for Monash med? I'm hanging on to that glimmer of hope to stop myself from breaking down. I haven't talked to anyone about this, please help.
Honest answers please, don't feel the need to say that it's possible just to make me feel better.

Usually, Monash Med is pretty competitive, so you might've not made it in Round 1, but there is a chance later on if you went through all the previous stages. (Not saying this to make you feel better. There is genuinely a glimmer of hope and some people who decide to not do Med after Round 1.)

If not (which I hope you do get in Round 2), remember that the guaranteed pathway might actually be a good thing and might make you a wiser and better doctor (or whatever your intention is) in the future. You never know...

P.S. Well done for making it so far into the process. Don't feel too disheartened yet or beat yourself up over it!

Sorry to hear about your situation. For what it's worth, I personally know people who received an offer in later rounds (even up to round 5!). So, in all honesty, it is possible. This is especially true since some students will decline their offer since they got an offer interstate, changed their minds, etc.

Undergrad isn't your only pathway into medicine (and becoming a doctor), and from what I've read, I'm sure you are aware of the graduate options available. It does suck to not to receive the offer you wanted, but please remember this doesn't mean you aren't cut out for medicine or being a doctor - unfortunately it's just the reality that there aren't enough places for everyone. Nonetheless, don't let this be the end of the road for you - there is plenty of advice (and success stories!) out there of people who have been in your exact situation and ended up where they wanted to be (albeit a slight detour). :)

I understand that you might not feel comfortable discussing this with people in your life right now, but don't forget that they're there to support you (regardless of what happens next). It's important to talk about this to someone you trust, especially since this is an important time for you right now. To reiterate, this isn't the end of the road :) Hang in there!
