Hello I am working ahead and currently working on my summary note for 3/4 chemistry. in the AOS1 galvanic cells as a source of energy section, the study design is mentioning about separation of half-cells and I don't realy get what it wants us to know about. PLZ HELP!

Hey suskieanna :)

Good on you for working ahead, that's pretty admirable!
The key points you need to know for "Separation of half-cells" are:
1. Why we separate half cells in galvanic reactions: If the reactants mixed, heat energy would be produced. Thus, reactants are separated so that the transfer of electrons occurs along a wire to generate electrical energy (instead of heat energy). This follows onto the next point in the study design.
2. When answering questions, you need to recognise that it's probably a galvanic question if the half-cells are separated. You should also be able to draw galvanic cells and show the clear separation of the half-cells.

Hope that helped, let me know if you have any other questions  :D
