How do u find the asymptotes for addition of ordinates?

An example would be good, but say you got the graphs $y = x$ and $y = \frac{1}{x}$

$y = x + \frac{1}{x}$

One asymptote would be $x = 0$ since $\frac{1}{0}$ is undefined.

$\lim_{x \to \infty} \implies \frac{1}{x} \to 0$ .

Thus the graph converges to $y = x$

Thus $y = x$ is another asymptote.
