I need to study, but I don't want to start...

*groans in agony*

How many times have you and I thought this? Probably too many to count. It's getting to that point in the year where I think of that line more often. But I don't want it to affect the quality of my study. For example, today my mind (weak compared to my emotions apparently) decided it did not want me to study today. It just didn't feel like it. Am I falling victim to my emotions yet again? I've been studying in the same location every day lately, that might be a factor? Surely my subject content isn't that boring? Am I just so over it and wish I could skip to when the supervisor in my final exam shouts, "Pens down", putting to an end 13 years of formal education? I'm not certain. But I think I need to not let my heart and its storehouse of emotions affect what is actually important in my life. I may also need to live a healthier life as well. I suppose it's not just one specific thing that is causing me to feel like not wanting to study. But it will be challenging, especially with those delightful exams getting even closer. So how do I deal with these thoughts and still study efficiently and live a healthy life?

I hope that made sense.

JR what you need is motivation.

I recommend you watch a few motivation study videos from youtube. This surprisingly always gave me the motivation I needed to keep pushing through subjects which I found boring, especially in English after I failed a task....

When I feel like I don't want to study, I just use some more fun techniques like recording my notes or watching videos. If I still can't get into the right headspace, I'll just set a timer for 10 mins and then tell myself I'm only going to do 10 minutes of work. Most of the time, I'll just keep going but even if I don't I've done 10 minutes and that's better than nothing!

I'm in year 11 so I don't know how willingly you will take advice from me but anyway- maybe try studying in a different location, might help especially if your current study spot has distractions. And when you know you need to study but don't feel like it, try just studying for 25 minutes, do the easy stuff, and then after those 25 minutes take a 5 minute break and then try moving on to the more important/difficult stuff. Continue studying in 25 minute intervals with 5 minute breaks in between. This is called the pomodoro technique (maybe you've heard of it) and I find it really works for me! It might help motivate you or maybe not.
Make sure to take care of yourself. You won't be able to focus and do your best work if you're stressed/your mind is somewhere else. Eat well, get 8-9 hours of sleep (sleep is vital!! Don't stay up till 2am studying) and exercise. Might help if before studying, go outside for a few minutes, go on a walk, etc, just to clear your mind of troubling thoughts. Basically, try not to stress and overthink too much. Easier said than done, for sure, but you can do it!! We all believe in you!
You are soooo so so so close to the finish line. Heck, I'm in year 11 and still have another whole year ahead of me, I so wish I was in your position right now. Just work hard for this last stretch and soon enough exams will be over and you will be free!

I'm never in the mood to study. For any of my subjects. None of them are as appealing as eating, sleeping, or watching YouTube. I just want to get exams over and done with, so I can actually study what I want to study (which is Psych, a.k.a the only subject which I like).

What can I do? I can't afford to put off studying for my subjects for much longer. Even though there's nothing I really like about them at this point.

Hey!
Hope you're feeling okay!!
Do you have any hobbies or sports that you're into??
Even though it feels like a waste of time or a method of procrastination, I find that they can help you to kinda take a step back and think about what you need to do.
Otherwise, maybe just take a break for a few days and then go back to studying! There's no harm in RESTING! :)

Hey!
I am in the process of finding a worthwhile hobby. I've lost interest in playing the piano.
With regards to taking a break, that might have to wait, seeing as I have optional (key word: optional) trial exams run by my school over next few days of the holidays. But I feel like I have to sit some of them, even if I completely stuff them all up.
Starting really is the hardest part, isn't it?
