hello,
just wanting to know if this introduction is okay for a VCE exam style essay?
It is based on the prompt: 'Look he wants to shout, I am still here but is different', compare the way the the two texts explore the idea that people can change. Should I include the first bit in italics?
The transformation of Priam, David Malouf's hero in the novel 'Ransom, is illuminated when he walks in to the camp of the Greek army with no protection or any of his kingly pride. This demonstrates a significant break from his former 'symbolic' and sacred character. Thus the Troy king and god-like figure is striped of everything he had been, signifying change in one person to extreme extent. This plays a part in displaying the process of change in 'Ransom', which is reflected in Clint Eastwood's film 'Invictus'. In both texts, change is initiated as conditions of conflict and tension are overcome by inspiration to relinquish legacies or prejudices from the past to forge a new perspective. The power of leadership is especially key to inspiring in others the capacity to embrace a new idea that is contrary to traditional beliefs and values. Similarly texts demonstrate that others' warnings and admonishments must have little influence if one is to transform. Change in Ransom is instead encouraged by a sense of duty and personal gains. On the other hand, Invictus emphasises the need for forgiveness and self-sacrifice to eliminate the natural inclinations of a group of people. Furthermore, the theme of change results in a sense of a legacy, both in Ransom and Invictus. This is proficised in Ransom as a story that will be passed through the generations with a vague reality. In Invictus, real footage at the beginning creates a sense of a past legacy.
