what should be the proper definition of binary fission?
the form of asexual reproduction and cell division used by all prokaryotic and some single-celled eukaryotic organisms. This process results in the reproduction of a living prokaryotic cell by division into two parts which each have the potential to grow to the size of the original cell.
Mitosis and cytokinesis are not the same as binary fission; specifically, binary fission cannot be divided into prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase because prokaryotes have no nucleus and no centromeres. The ability of some multicellular animals, such as echinoderms and flatworms, to regenerate two whole organisms after having been cut in half, is also not the same as binary fission.

For that qn where they had a circle diagram and a photo of one of the stages of mitosis, and we had to say where the stage was happening, what was it?
I wrote that it was anaphase, and I can't remember which letter from the circle I picked :(

I think qn 1 or 2 ?

oh yeh that was question 2. im pretty sure it was anaphase because the chromosomes were visible and no other option made sense. it had to be during the mitosis cycle. and there was only 1 of them during mitosis

What letter point was it?  I truly had no idea.  The cell cycle confuses me so much.

In that circle they provided, was the order, S, gap 1, gap 2, then mitosis ? Cos I think thats the one I picked. Whichever letter was in that segment.

That's what I chose. I said it was the mitosis part of the cell cycle because the cell appeared to be in anaphase of mitosis.

Edit: yes, point W.

This exam was just really really different then what was expected.

y.

The fact that the first question was "Describe Binary Fission".
I knew something was going down.
Sure enough, everything that has been stuck to my shower screen for the last few weeks was irrelevant.
Just the way questions are asked, the types of questions asked. Noticed there wasn't much inheritance and pedigrees?

I know!  I relied on it!  I love stating information that proves a mode of inheritance, it's so hard to do badly on a question like that.
I was shocked that it was missing from Section B.

NO PEDIGREES? BLASPHEMY D: That used to be free marks on every exam...

I know, death to the VCAA.
They really hated '09 clearly.
WHEN IS SOMEBODY GOING TO SCAN THE BLOODY PAPER?

it was the one inside the mitosiss. sorry dont remember the letter. Q or somethign?./ it was after gap 2. and before gap 1. the only letter in there.

i know there were no pedigrees! i was LIKE FIRKC!. i love pedigrees.

for plasmid i drew 2 circles becuz well its DNA so double stranded means double circles?

Plasmids are represented as single circles, despite being double-stranded.

I don't remember letter but its the point just before the little tiny section (assuming its cytokinesis)

So? YAC was one line, and it was double stranded.

I don't think anyone can get the paper unless their teacher gave it to them?

Were we also meant to mention anaphase for that? if so i musn't have seen it
