It differs between schools but usually you get invited back to the school for a whole school assembly where they present you with a certificate and/or plaque, give a speech to the entire school, shake a few hands.

Some schools invite back all the students who got the highest study score for each subject offered by the school and give them a medal and a certificate.

Wow your dux gets a plaque...nice

Ours get books - but a plaque sounds much cooler!

Well the dux actually gets a plaque and a free laptop.  I didn't say the laptop before because not many schools give out laptops and I was trying to generalise as much as possible.

Wow.

But it's an il cheapo Acer laptop.

I think the dux for my high school is presented with some award on Speech Night the year after they graduate.

Other than that... no free laptops for me :(

Our school holds their presentation night on the day results are released. It hands out awards to Dux of each subject, to the top 10 and to the Dux of the school

Our presentation night is before the results are released which is lame.

At my old school, they took into account SAC marks as well. So someone who got 99.90 shared the award with someone who got 98.90

So, every dux from each school gets a prize, right?

Depends on the school
There are premiers awards for top in each subject [and all-round achievers] and something from the Federal Government for the top aggregates [not sure what %] based on raw scores. And scholarships, depending on unis.
