Need a 5th subject

I wanted to do 3/4 Theatre Studies via distance but was told its "too much of a resource commitment". The only subject my school offers that I am slightly interested in is HHD. I am however also looking at completing Global Politics, Economics or Australian Politics. Has anyone done those subjects before via distance ed?? After school I want to do paramedicine or law so out of the subjects listed what would be most beneficial?
I'm not a strong English student but a A+ Legal student...so what subject would be most beneficial and i do best in?

I'm not super knowledgeable in this area but here is my input.
I haven't done any of those subjects through DECV, but I have done many others. I have heard from others in my year level at DECV that all of these subjects have a decent workload to them. It is about 6-8 hours a week online + a 1 hour online lesson. It may seem like alot, but you have no homework to do and this is just an average across all subjects. Since I haven't looked at the course it can really range in how it teachers. E.g, you might have paragraphs of texts, some videos and a few interactive activities, I would really consider how you learn best, as it really isn't for everyone.

Teachers can also be a hit or miss. You can have awesome teachers or really crappy ones that don't give great feedback on your work (not too many though). You also need to have a lot of self discipline to keep up with the workload, as it is generally higher than regular schools.
I would recomend reading through these three posts on the VSV website to get a jist of the course.
Global Studies: http://www.distance.vic.edu.au/subject-tasters/globalpolitics-unit-3-4/
Australian Politics:  http://www.distance.vic.edu.au/subject-tasters/australianpolitics-unit-3-4-2/
Economics: http://www.distance.vic.edu.au/subject-tasters/economics-unit-3-4/

Feel free to PM if you have any other questions about VSV :).
I think Australian politics would be the most beneficial, as the other two aren't super relevant to Australian law. HHD could be a good option for you, as you have also completed bio, which would give you a head start in the subject and be relevant for paramedicine.

Hey J_Rho :)

I haven't done Legal, Politics or Economics but I just wanted to pop over here and say that IMO, HHD is a pretty good introduction to Australia's healthcare system (e.g. Medicare, PBS, Private Health Insurance, etc.) #nobias  :P. You get to learn about the health status of Australia and health in a global context.
A lot of the content is applicable to everyday life (I'd say more so than Politics or Legal), and you can pick up the subject quite easily without Units 1 and 2.
There's a bit of rote learning of definitions in HHD, (e.g. the dimensions of health and wellbeing), and I'd say this is present in the other subjects you mention, to my limited knowledge.

I would also consider choosing based on which one you think you'll enjoy the most (based on the info you have) as you will enjoy studying for it more and it can guide your future career aspirations. The study designs of each subject, found on the VCAA page, can give you a more specific insight as to what you will be studying. Even looking at past exams to see the types of questions or asking your Legal teacher or the HHD teacher(s) at your school could help.

You have Legal which will be the most directly related to law, so HHD could almost give you the best of both worlds? In saying this, Legal and Politics / Economics link in the subject matter through the different fields of law and the actual law making process.

Do you enjoy humanities subjects and are you willing to have one plus Legal in your study load?

Additionally, studying a subject through VSV is quite independent in nature compared to learning in the classroom (as Geoo has mentioned above). Could you imagine yourself undertaking a subject largely online?

Good luck with your decision and feel free to let us know what you end up choosing!

Hope it all goes well.
