Biology SACS and marks

I got my first Biology SAC back and my mark sucks (76%) :'( . I studied so much for it, I did ALL the relevant textbook and checkpoints questions as well as exampro questions. I know SO MUCH on the topics we covered, however, on the test they decided to cover about 1/4 of the content we + I think I just messed up. It wasn't particularly hard but considering I was going for 100 I'm really sad. I love bio and I'm going for a solid 45 this year. How much do SACS contribute? If I was to get 90% on the rest of my sacs and 90% on my exam you guys think I can get that score? Cheers,

PS. I know that ranking matters for SACS

Hey Adam.
I guess a lot of factors come into play in terms of whether you'll be able to achieve that 45. However, yes, you can still achieve that 45 study score.
In Biology, SACs contribute 40% while the exam contributes 60% so in the end the exam is what matters the most.
Also, you may think that 76% is bad but do you know how well you went compared to the rest of your cohort? As you've said, ranking does matter so you should consider that.

I'm not sure how others went yet, Assuming the worst, probably a good 5 people got 90%+

Hi Adam,
Unit 3 SACs only contribute 16%, so it's definitely still possible to get 45 (As long as you rank high in Unit 4 sacs - which matter more than unit 3). You're totally allowed to feel disappointed with your mark but use it as motivation to smash the next SAC.

And as Evolio said, it's ultimately the exam score that will have the largest impact on your score.

Thank you for the positive advice, congrats on 50 also that's awesome!

Hey Adam, just wanted to reiterate what Evolio and Chocolatemilkshake said - the exam is what makes or breaks your study score. Weighting-wise, it's worth 60%, but your performance on the exam also plays a part in how your final SAC scores will be moderated, so arguably it's worth even more than that overall. I did decent in biology throughout year 12, but bombed the final exam, and that dragged down my SAC scores as well.

My advice is to don't stress over your actual marks but just focus on what you can do to improve for future SACs. Your 76% is ultimately meaningless. Focus on building a solid foundation for the exam and a good study score will naturally follow.

I hadn't realised SAC results can be moderated via exam results. Very interesting, thanks!
