I'm currently hunting down all my text books for uni (second hand).

I was wondering if a book is an edition or two lower than the prescribed one, will it generally matter?

Also maybe a thread for selling text books on FSN would be a good idea?

Yeah, it depends on the subject. Sometimes earlier editions have exactly the same content as later ones but look a bit different, but sometimes there are huge differences between them.

probably a silly question, but when should we start looking for textbooks? do we get mailed any info or do we have to use what they have on WES?

They told us that our lecturers will tell us what textbooks to get at our first lecture ...

BA22, Bookshop prices are hideous, aren't they?! I like your approach, get your texts books early on eBay while they're still pretty cheap. Although it's a slight problem when the only texts appearing on the subject pages are 'preliminary reading' (though I may try to find copies of those anyway). It can also be a problem if you buy the book and find out on the first lecture you don't need to for whatever reason.

Did anyone here got their book list yet? do they even send one out or you meant to look them up yourself in accordance with the units undertaken?

Many residential colleges [if you happen to be residing in one] have a scheme which enables you to acquire your textbooks for free

Wow. That sounds cool. I'll have to look into that.

In the melb uni site when you log in there is booklist in the Admin tab there booklists... and you choose what subjects you want then BANG shows you your booklist.
What is the difference between prescribe texts and recommended texts?
