Does anyone know why we use

Pa in but
kPa in ?

Also, before using the hydrostatic pressure formula what units should we convert to? Thanks

It depends on how you define R. You can easily turn it into a situation that invovles Pa by changing R by some power of 10. (just look at the units of R basically).

I like to stick to SI, so kg/m^3 would be perfect if all other quantities are in SI.
