( For anyone doing 'The Crucible' and 'The Dressmaker' for their Comparative. )
“You have 5 minutes left until the end of your exam”
I looked up at the clock. The American Looking Exam supervisor walked past my left isle. I distinctly remember her American accent. The girl next to me stopped writing and looked around the room, starting to fix her shoes.
The 3 hour and 15 minutes had gone past so fast. Wow.
I came out the 2020 VCE English Exam with an overwhelming feeling of joy. A big cheesy smile. I had just finished my English exam. After spending months of preparing for my English, I had finally done it. After writing 100+ practice essays, staying up late and waking up at 5am almost every single day to write an essay.
I did all I could. And I was so proud.
And I want to help you do the same.
Guys, the exam is approaching very soon.
Throughout my VCE Year 12 English journey, I wrote more than 100+ Practice Essays, I received A+’s for all of my SACS, including the ones in Year 11 and 12.
I received a 44 English Exam Score. I received the ‘Exemplary Award’ for all of my subjects in year 12, and I received the highest academic score award in Year 11.
Three years ago, I was receiving B’s in English. I wasn’t naturally smart or good in English. I developed my technique over time. I studied and studied.
I spent around $2000 for my VCE English courses, TSFX lectures, attending ATAR note lectures and doing the English Masterclass.
Throughout trial and error, I discovered extremely effective ways to take notes and study.

2.
-“ THE ULTIMATE THE CRUCIBLE AND THE DRESSMAKER” metalanguage DOCUMENT
WHY is the metalanguage IMPORTANT?
The jump from a score of 7 to 8 is the hardest.
And believe it or not, the jump from a 8 to 9/10 is not that difficult as the jump from 7 to 8 is.
Now, I don’t know about you, but I wanted perfection in my essays.
In the period leading up to the exam, I would hand in my practice essays and I always wondered why I only got an A. Where did I lose that ‘+’ ?
How do I jump from an A to an A+ ? What can really uplift your score from a C to an A ?
That’s right, it’s metalanguage and literary devices.
I used to think that they were the same thing, but they have very subtle differences. Very very subtle differences.
And the key is: the more metalanguage and literary devices, the better.
This is what separates a 7 to 8.
That’s why, I spent around 50% of my time searching, collating and analysing the literary techniques and metalanguage, and I’ve put it in the following document. It is highly valuable to any student who wants to go above and beyond. It will get you there. I know you can do it, and this will be your secret weapon. Just by having this list, you will lift your piece by so much. I have looked at almost all the resources available for ‘The Crucible’ and ‘The Dressmaker’, and collated this list. It is priceless, your secret weapon. It is the seasoning on your essay that most people will be missing.
