I am at a small school and unfortunately our digital solutions teacher doesn't really know how to code or have a clue about what could be in the test or how to do much of it. I was just wondering if anyone had a few pointers of what needs to be learnt? What kind of things will I need to memorise or practice? Is there anywhere online with some good questions to do to prepare for the external (we don't really have any study resources).
We (as a class - there are four of us including me) attempted to do a public external QCAA mock and had to look at almost all of the answers. Whilst I can generally follow along with the answers (some things I had never seen before) I couldn't do too many of the questions without first looking at the marking guide, so any pointers about what to study or where any questions would be (I've searched online a bit but have came up pretty blank on practice - I have IPTO so will do some SQL but don't have anything else) would be a major help.

Basically I'm a little screwed so I'd take any help I can. ^_^

I also have some notes that I have made (using the textbook mainly). I'm not sure if it covers what it needs to, and may have too much detail in unneeded areas, but if you guys were wanting them I'd be happy to give them. They aren't perfect but could still help to have the information together one one file and save some time from having to do it yourself if you haven't already :)

Thanks heaps ;)

Hey,

Sorry for the week late reply, I had a streak of checking this thread daily and must have overlooked your reply. To be honest, I kind of resonate with your predicament because, while I am not in a class of 4 students, I do feel as though the Digital Solutions content is poorly taught throughout the entire state.

Attached to this message are some files (more files can be found in the replies below) and videos that I've found somewhat useful (idk if you will find them useful but resources always help in my eyes). There are also the syllabus dot points and some of my notes (these can be found within the replies below) I digitally wrote attached. I have attached the syllabus dot points because QCAA shouldn't be able to test us on anything outside of this (e.g. if something says symbolise then QCAA can only ask you to draw some form of diagram for that topic/concept for short response questions). I only say short response questions because multiple choice is all about identifying the correct response out of a list of alternatives so it is hard for QCAA to stick to the definition of a cognitive verb. Speaking of cognitive verbs, I will also attach a pdf containing all of the definitions for them because it is quite integral for you to know what they mean to be able to study more efficiently.

There is a lot of files and links I have sent but don't feel overwhelmed. If I had to tell you to study one of these many files, it would be the QUT Unit 4 Digital Solutions pdf (see the link below) because it gives you some pretty good information. However, I'd still recommend going through each resource I have sent to allow yourself to gain a deep understanding of the content.

Links:
https://cms.qut.edu.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0006/977253/Unit-4-Digital-Soutions-External-Exam-Teacher-Resource-August-2020.pdf (This is a very helpful pdf because it has so many links and questions you can do to help you understand the content)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3QhU9jd03a0 (This is a video for the network content but you don't need to know all of what this video discusses just what the QCAA syllabus states).

https://sqlbolt.com/ (A good website to test your SQL knowledge)

https://sqlzoo.net/wiki/SQL_Tutorial (An alright website to test your SQL knowledge... Some of the questions are a bit stupid)

https://www.w3schools.com/sql/ (Last resort website for SQL testing... it is good but I just don't like it that much)

https://www.visual-paradigm.com/guide/data-flow-diagram/what-is-data-flow-diagram/ (This website is good for understanding the rules to DFDs... don't worry about the different levels because you only need to create a Level 1 DFD)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GSIDS_lvRv4 (Might help you understand asymmetric key cryptography)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AQDCe585Lnc (This video also might help you understand asymmetric key cryptography)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O4xNJsjtN6E (Up until 4:10, this video is sorta helpful in understanding the Advanced Symmetric Encryption Standard but is somewhat confusing)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZtInClXe1Q (I think this video talks about hashing and encryption but can't remember)

(This video helps you understand how one-time pad encryption works - I literally wasn't taught and was tested on it in my mock so that made me pretty annoyed)

(This video explains to you how REST works but it isn't that great)

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SLwpqD8n3d0 (I found this video to be a bit better with explaining REST)

https://www.w3schools.com/xml/ (This tutorial explains what XML is)

https://www.w3schools.com/js/js_json_intro.asp (This tutorial explains what JSON is)

https://www.w3schools.com/js/js_json_xml.asp (This tutorial explains what the difference between these two concepts are)
