A fraction is an exact answer. Decimals are actually the ones which can be not exact. You'll be fine.

Yeah, there was something in a assessment report where they had 'many students converted this to a fraction as they didn't seem to think a decimal was exact' in their usual condescending tone. So don't worry about it.

I'm confused.

I thought fractions are exact answers, and decimals are approximations... ?  ???

Decimals can be an exact answer. e.g. 1/5=0.2

However, 1/3=0.33333 approx, not exact.

LOL totally agree with the condescending tone, i think they should have a happy assessment reporter writing in a casual tone.. that way it will attract more vce students seeing as it is designed for us (and teachers)

Trust me, most of the people writing assessors' reports are old and grumpy and get off writing in a sneering-manner :P
Also, they're trying to prove that their programme is infallible, and what better way to do that then comment on it with a razor sharp tongue! :)
