is this not reasonable?
« on: November 10, 2009, 09:28:34 pm »
ok assuming exam 1 and 2 was of the same standard as last year, and last year to get a 50 u cud only lose 2 marks so......

is it fair to say that to get a 49, u can lose 4 marks all up, and to get a 48 u cud lose 6 marks all up?

all this is ofcourse assuming ur number 1 in terms of SAC marks (A+)

wat u reckon?

I don't think so - I lost 2.5 marks to get 49. I know people who have lost 6 marks to get below 45. So I think every mark is important in Methods, especially on exam 2.

I think last year, to get 50, you could lose about 1.5 marks.

oh man...that sucks but did those people get A+ sacs as well, and was that in 06, coz that year the exams were easy so u cudnt afford to lose 6 marks

do u know how many marks u cud lose for a 48 or a 47 last year?

Last year, you could lose 1 mark guaranteed for 50 (girl who had rank 1 lost 1 mark but got 50).

The statistic about 6 marks and less than 45 was sadly for last year's exam. Methods is very competitive, which gets scary because every mark is important. These people had high A to A+ SACs with close to perfect on exam 1.

For a 47-48, I reckon 3-4.5 marks is all you can lose. That is with rank 1 on SACs and 40 on exam 1. Overall, about 4 marks loss for a 47-48.

Good luck! =)

Last year you can lose 2 marks to get a 50.

A kid at our school lost 2 and got 50 and premiers :)

Then how does ilovemathsmeth lose 2.5 and not get 50? Did they get their statement or base off solutions? Unless it was SACs that made the difference...

Nah, mine is from my statement. I had a very high rank at my school - rank 2-3, with strong cohort. Maybe 2 was the maximum you could lose, and thus I missed out by 0.5 marks? Wish I'd done the domain right.

Ahhh =( If only I'd known that I'd miss out by half a mark. Life's unfair. I was much too obsessed with that perfect score lol.

Thanks, Hooligan!! I really, really hope so =) However I was careless and already lost 1 mark on the exam - not sure how many more marks I could have lost. Are you confident with Further?

Umm... I'm fairly confident... I know I'll get less than you though. :P Just hoping for a 48 or 49. :) But would be ectatic if I got 50 (buts its not likely considering I dropped marks everywhere! :P)

I loss 2 marks on exam 1 - both STUPID STUPID mistakes. *headdesk* I hate how they can trick me in MCQ. And probably just one in exam 2 (hopefully there aren't anymore I dropped), which was the aeroplane question... wasn't thinking straight and I put 4.5 and 5.5. :P

I know, exam 1 was so tricky! =(

Exam 2 - lost marks on the same question as you. I think that question was screwed. Do you use Maths Quest - they specifically state that in the case of Integer solutions, you use the nearest 8 points to that particular point. I used 5, 4 to give $17000 but it's meant to be 2,7. I hate VCAA.

You'll definitely get a great mark! I still don't know exactly how much I lost on explanation questions, so like you, I'm hoping for the range 48-50.
