Lactic acid ionises in solution according to HLA + H2O ---> H3O+ + La-
If HLa is added to a solution of ionised HLa at equilibrium, what will be the effect on the concentration of h+, concentration of OH- and the pH

Its pretty obvious that the pH will decrease and concentration of H+ will increase, but what will happen to the concnetration of hydroxide ions?

it will decrease cause it reacts with H3O+
well the limit can turn into a threshold..

oh sorry, in every aqueous solution there are hydronium and hydroxide ions, if the hydronium ion concentration increases it means that the hydroxide ion concentration decreases due to the 10^-14 constant at 25 degrees in water, so yeah sorry about before [=

"[H+] and [OH-] ions are inversely related" - Jack.

Increase in H+ = decrease in OH-
Decrease in H+ = increase in OH-
