PHYSICS 2 UOM EXAMS (640-112 / 640-132 / 640-172 / 640-182)
« on: November 12, 2009, 04:06:46 pm »
From what I can gather, the subjects:

Physics 2: Advanced (640-112)
Physics 2: Physical Science & Technology (640-132)
Physics 2: Life & Environmental Sciences (640-172)
Physics for Biomedicine (640-182)

had their exam today (this morning).

How did you guys go?  I took 640-112, and I enjoyed it.  Some of the questions I did the old 'figure out what the area is by working backwards from the answer' trick, but most of it was cool :P

THOUGHTS?

I did 640-172 and found it rather interesting, especially the one about the magnet through a hole.

Is that induction?

What's the "figure out what the area is by working backwards from the answer"?

Thanks to kamil9876's response, I was able to answer the magnet in hole question.

What's the "figure out what the area is by working backwards from the answer"?

More generally he's probably referring to the problem solving strategy of working backwards.

I did 640-172 and thought it was Ok. It had its easy questions and its hard questions.

What's the "figure out what the area is by working backwards from the answer"?

Basically we have this law (Gauss' law), which basically boils down to:

Now, if I know what equals, I can write down a value for such that is equal to !  I did it on perhaps 3/4 questions where I couldn't figure out how to do it properly.

I did 640-172.. some easier questions but quite alot of harder/unexpected/unseen questions. there seemed to be alot of "proof" type questions, which I didn't like... Overall, don't think I did nearly as well as last semester :(
At least I can say goodbye to physics forever!!!!  ;D

Yeah i have to agree with you on that one. There were a few questions i wasn't a fan of!
There was one on Ampere's Law (or not?). I wasn't sure how to derive it, only knew how to do it for Gauss' Law... And probably because I didn't knew the formula to magnetic field through a solenoid? Now what am I talking about  :idiot2:

Also, I forgot how to do the Sun/Earth radiation question and the nuclear radiation question (last part)...

I was in the 10am lectures. Do you think most people would have found that exam challenging?

Aha I'm in the 2pm lecture. Many were saying the paper was hard but I thought it was definitely easier than Physics 1. I think I got 72% or so last semester (approx 60% on the exam). Did way better this exam :P
