Looks like it unless we apply for an exemption (but I don't have a good reason for exemption >.<)

I only found out about it through an email from the Student Union (and emails from the Student Union are only sent to Student Union members)

Sorry, but I don't get this.  Is there some sort of strike or something that is preventing universities from releasing exam results?  Can someone please explain?

Dear Student Union Members,

Last week, University of Melbourne staff voted to implement bans on the transmission of results.

This is due to the refusal of the University senior management to seriously negotiate with staff to address excessive workloads, reduce student-staff ratios and increase job security for casual academics and tutors.

UMSU supports university staff and endorses the results ban.

Teaching quality, over-crowded class rooms and tutor availability outside of class times are all serious issues that can be fixed by a decision of the University to treat staff concerns seriously.

The results ban could mean that your results will be delayed.

In order to ensure that no student suffers disadvantage, the NTEU (staff union) and UMSU (student union) have created an exemptions committee.

If you believe you will suffer serious harm or disadvantage, you can apply for an exemption from the ban. One of your student representatives will be sitting on the exemption committee, and their information will be made available in the next couple of days if you would like more information, or would like to get in contact with them.

Please visit: http://universitybargaining.com.au/students/Melbourne/ for more information.

More information about the exemptions committee and the results bans will be made available on that website.

Yours sincerely,

Carla Drakeford

President

There is no intention to cause any serious harm to students

WTF. No intention my ass. I've had it up to here with these f*&^ing unions.

This year I tried to go to the uni with people barricading the entrance and shoving me papers and trying to stop me from going to classes that I (with HECS) pay for.

Can they explain why they are doing this?

Just wondering, is the concern they raise about staff THAT bad?

Like being  a prestigious, and I assume wealthy University, is there really over-crowding? Too many students in a class? But hasn't that been going on for DECADES? i.e. lecture rooms of 100+ people?

I sympathise with them about job security, especially during these times, and always hearing how "x" uni has stood down dozens of staff etc. But yeah, is it all just nonsense?

=S
