Is it possible to know a uni course's content?

Is it possible to know what I will be specifically studying next year at uni?
I know that although people do the same course, people have different electives which cover different things. So, is it possible to know which electives I can choose and what to study for them? :)

unimelb and monash have fairly detailed course handbooks. I'm sure the other universities do too but you can find them yourself =)

Thanks :) I guess that'll have to do then since that's the only thing that's available to us. Too bad I don't know anyone that does my course to shed more light.

In general, yeah, the university handbook is the way. Sometimes the department also has information on their webpage about specific pathways in that discipline. For ANU, check out here, here, and here.

Assistant Professor, University of Virginia, 2020-

Feel free to ask me about (advanced) mathematics.

Ah cool. Yeah I think it's enough info in the handbooks to get me started. :)

No harm done in looking over stuff before uni starts. I don't want to repeat what I've done for year 12.

If I did UMEP Physics at melbourne would I still have to do Foundations of Physics or Advanced Physics 1 & 2?
Do you think I could get access to second year physics courses?
Also what's the minimum possible time someone can complete the PhB in? Is 2 years a possibility?

Nah you'd probably be able to jump right into second year physics courses (quite a few of my friends did this). I did the equivalent with maths courses. (And lolz, Foundations of Physics is physics for bio students. The Further Maths of the physics world.)
2 years is pushing it. 2 and a half years is possible. Then add a year onto that for honours. You can't do honours in any shorter period of time than a year, and it's hard to do 6 ASCs and enough third year courses in less than 2 and a half years.
No need to rush it though, if you get too far ahead just go on exchange and bum around Europe. Worked for me ;)

Is honours really important though? I'm thinking of maybe doing postgrad afterwards

Uh, yeah, you're not going to get into postgrad anywhere without honours (PhD usually needs first class honours at that).

Well, you could do a MSc and then move on to the PhD couldn't you?

Yes. A PhD requires some experience with research based science, either from an honours year of a bachelor degree, or a masters degree with a research component.

Yeah, apparently Uni is a lot harder than yr 12 =(

That said, is the study at Uni more like yr 12 where it's all 'consistent hard work' or do people easily balance recreational activities along with study?

lol I probably only studied 1-2 hours for business statistics throughout the semester. I didn't even do preparation for macroecon - just went to the exam (oh I did read through the questions for 5 mins)

LOL, I'm becoming so lazy.

Year 12 was definitely more consistent, whereas in uni it's a lot of extreme slacking to extreme cramming. That's not to say I don't study (I do), it's just that the assignments you get (and their due dates) kind of sneak up on you.

One of the perks of uni is that you'll probably be a lot more social, which doesn't really help the studying cause, but I've probably had the best year of my life so far.
