Radiology

As you may know, if not, I am a Yr 11 VCE student, entering Yr 12 in 2010.
I am keen on doing a course of the Medical Field.

Especially:
-Physiotherapy
-Dentistry
-Radiology

I know the entry requirements, and how the careers of a dentist and physiotherapist pan out too.
However I am not too sure on the entry requirments of Radiology, or what course do you
have to do to become a radiologist. Also, I don't understand how if you do the course
for radiology at Monash you cannot be the lead doctor?

These are some issues if someone could clear.

Radiologists have to study Medicine (i.e. MBBS at Monash or graduate MD at UoM) and specialise in it post-grad, whereas radiographers are the ones that come out of the radiology course (stupid course naming, I know) at Monash. Check the Monash website for any specifics, but the major hurdle I'm aware of for Radiology is that you must have done 3/4 physics, and it's probably a 35 SS hurdle or something (double check that, I'm not too sure what the score required is). The reason why you can't be the lead doctor is because you aren't a doctor in the first place. Radiographers help radiologists do certain tasks such as imaging and so on, but are quite restricted in their degree of control over what happens since almost everything they do must go through a radiologist. This is especially for things such as diagnosis, treatment options, patient communication etc. From what I'm aware of, it's more involved in the labour side of actually running the scans.

On a related note is a Medical Physicist. UNSW and USyd offer masters in medical physics from what I recall.
