that normally involves discussing:
1. purpose (eg to persuade people that..)
2. audience (eg policy decision makers)
3. form (eg opinion piece in a major daily newspaper)

my teacher has changed the topic of "bay dredging" to "paid maternity leave" which i think was a very good choice.
Would anyone have articles on this issue?

I really have no idea, I need to research into the issues to gain a better understanding and view point.

There should be a page for each issue on The Age 'issue' page.
http://www.education.theage.com.au/pagelist.asp?strsection=students&intsectionid=0
You could also 'google' your issues and click the 'news' link which will bring up relevant articles.

Does everybody believe the Muck Up Day issue is a fairly good one to do the oral on? Because I am seriously stuck for ideas, argh!
Any other new interesting issues?

In my opinion there's not much 'meat' in a muck-up day issue. I'd look for an issue that has many perspectives that you can look at it from, ie; environmental, social, financial, moral perspective. That way you can have various angles to argue your issue from.
