hey guys. i just had an interview with engage education to become a tutor. it costs only $22.50 an hour for 1 on 1 or 1 on 2 sessions. what they had in mind is to get the tutors to read essays and grade them out of 10 and tell you how to improve, get ideas bouncing of one another in group sessions etc. everything i would do in a private session, these guys wanna do. i advise you to do it not only for english, but for all your subjects. pm me for more info.

I know a great tutor who lives near Monash Clayton, shes marks English and Lit papers. Unfortunately shes in such demand that she only accepts kids who she knows and most of her students start going to her at around age 12.

IMO, it also sounds like a waste of time. It's perfectly possible to get a 50 without that much preparation, and it's also probable that you can train for years and not ace the exam. Once you reach the top end, everything just depends on how you go on the day of the examination.

+1, thats definitely true, it's all about the skill (and fate :P) of a student, not usually about the amount of preparation.
But, if you can get a student to think in essays in the best way possible from an early age, it can't do any harm

I don't disagree that's it's good to try and improve from a young age; I think it's toxic to be focused on VCE from the beginning of high school. I don't think it's beneficial. At all.

Yeah, I suppose.
It's not beneficial to start so early on VCE, but if you have time, learning good English techniques may come in handy (not VCE) :D

yeah, that is definitely true.  i have neglected english for years, never wrote anything unless i had to, and my sucky school had the worst english teacher who i happened to have for two years, and she never taught us anything.  definitely practice english from the very start of high school, and you will probably find vce english a breeze.

i don't know about other schools, but we only learnt about essay writing and language analysis in year 9, which i reckon is far too late.

Lol? I only learned about them in Y10. I had no concept of how to write an essay before then, but that being said, I never really worked in English until Y10.

Thats kinda true from 7-9 its only text response and 10 you are taught language analysis, 11-12 then context. I'm not too sure why they don't introduce language analysis earlier.

@kyzoo: I thought your school would have taught it since year 7 ^^

I think that you could grab an essay writing book in year 7 and that'd be as much benefit to your VCE as paying $$$ for a tutor at that time.

Seeing as though we don't even offer 1/2 in Y10, I'm not surprised lol.
