can you just go ahead and pick post grad qualifications that are irrelevant to your degree?

for example, could I do this:

Melbourne Uni pre-eng major in a Science Undergraduate + Masters of Engineering at Melbourne

then do say...a doctor of philosophy in Law or Management or something?

what I know is that you can go from a masters to a doctorate though...

well short answer no, when applying for a PhD you will need to sow relevant knowledge in the proposed area of study.

Not completely, you can get away with doing something somewhat unrelated as long as you've been high achieving previously. Depends on the uni. It's very much not recommended though, obviously.

A Juris Doctor is not a PhD. A Doctor of Medicine is not a PhD etc.
