By who?

I'm guessing TSFX since they call them "Intense workshops" or weekly classes as normal students call them when stripped of its advertising lingo.

If you want to meet with others, it shouldn't need to be so expensive. Why can't it be free? We're trying to start an initiative, as you can see on the thread that was popular for the wrong reasons yesterday.

Nah, that's alright. Apparently (because I haven't investigated the pricing) people pay hundreds of thousands for the networking at TED lectures. They're free at ted.com, why would you pay?

And same for university:

 * the degree, there are alternatives that are cheaper/shorter (diplomas, etc.)
 * the learning, there are way cheaper and better ways to learn (reading, on the job, etc.)

So the only value I see are two things:

 * a set out learning plan (like Jenny Craig for dieting, or personal trainer for fitness)
 * networking

So... paying for networking is not a new thing :)

(At one stage, I recommended the weekly classes at TSFX for meeting new people -- lots of people I know at university are through TSFX)
